    first stage of labour

    hello,

I'm expecting my first bubs. Today, I'm 9 days overdue. On tuesday I had a 'stretch and sweep' and found out I was 2cm dilated. Since Tuesday I've been losing a fair bit of pinky brown mucous and since 10pm last night it's been coming out a lot and it's quite liquidy. I thought the mucous plug was supposed to be like a blob...but maybe not? well I'm sure it's fine. I have been having irregular and somewhat painful contractions since last night and they are getting stronger but still I'm waiting until I can't bear them anymore before calling the hospital.

Should I call the hospital or is it best to wait until the contractions become regular? I have to take antibiotics so I'm not sure if I should go in earlier.

I don't really know why I'm posting... I'm just so excited!!! and feeling quite peaceful. I am booked in for induction on monday so I am very happy if I can avoid this. I assume it won't be long but I know labour can go on for hours!

Perhaps give the hossy a call....jsut cos u do have to take antibiotics... they might wanna see you. But generally they like you to call when regular....but hey... cant hurt to ask...?

Good luck and cant wait to see your birth announcement!!

How exciting!! I would call the hospital just so they can prepare for your arrival, it would be nice for them to know who they are expecting to come in the next 24hours.

I was told by my hospital they liked their patients to call when they first suspect they are having regular contractions, I think it was 10 to 15 minutes apart, gawd my memory is failing me

    Good luck!!!

Congrats!! If your unsure just give the hospital a call and let them know what's going on. I had the stretch and sweep with my first and hated it! So uncomfy (and was done by a male ob).. How far apart are the contractions? First births r normally longer but not always...

    Hi cosmicness
I dont think you will need your induction. I'm not sure why you are on antibiotics so it may be a good idea to give the hospital a call. The mucous plug is usually more like a blob but because you had a S&S the discharge you describe sounds normal

Give them a call they may just advise you to stay home until you are a bit further along you wont know until you call, but more than anything else enjoy this time and congratulations.

    thanks much for the replies

yeah, I'll call the hospital now. I tested positive for strep B so that's why I need to take antibiotics.

I'm wondering if I'm slowly leaking amniotic fluid or if it's just really liquidy discharge/show? I'm going to the toilet every 5-10minutes.

I called the hospital and let them know and the lady said to call when the contractions become regular or if I think I'm leaking fluid. So, it's good they know I may come in.

I feel so calm and happy.

The going to the toilet a lot is a real sign, I reckon.

I couldn't stay off the flaming thing when I was having contractions. It didn't exactly fit in to my romantic view, but hey!! WHATEVER......... I felt comfy there. I kept having to pee. I then got told to get off the toilet and get on to the bed, that is unless I wanted to give birth to my baby on the toilet.

LOL i was the same, the midwife tricked me into getting off the toilet so i could go to the bed since i was up to pushing! she told me we'd go back to the toilet in a few minutes she just wanted to check things out.... 45 minutes later i was holding my son then it clicked 'hey she tricked me!'

haha yep I just want to stay on the toilet. My contractions are getting stronger and intense. They hurt but I'm feeling relaxed strangely. I actually have the giggles. The last two contractions were about 10 minutes apart so we'll see.

    woooot!

well done, glad to hear you are progressing well and that probably by tomorrow you will have a little baby, try to get plenty of rest, and stay comfortable you will need all that energy later. Keep us up to date, and just remember to take a breather and reflect.
