I live in Qld and will be having to fly to Vic next week ill be around 33 weeks. Does anyone know if its ok to fly? So far i have had an uncomplicated pregnancy so i was thinking i should be ok. Also if you've flown whilst pregnant how did you go with turbulence?
Yep - it is fine I went to NZ at 36 weeks (pushing the limits of international flying ) and no one even asked me anything!!! I even had a letter from the OB and was carrying insulin and needles and wasn't checked
I flew international long haul at 34 weeks from London to Perth and have also flown at 37 weeks from Karratha to Perth (only around 2.5 hrs) and was fine. I had letters from docters etc both times and my pregnancies had no complications.
Turbulence didnt bother me at all but I did find that despite best efforts of drinking lots of water, wearing support stockings and doing little leg excercises by the time I got off the plane I had swelled up and this swelling pretty much then lasted right thru to birth and didnt go down.
I flew Melbourne to Hobart (and back) at 31 weeks, no problems at all.
I did get a letter from my doctor saying I was OK to fly, but nobody asked to see it.
I believe that most airlines will take you routinely up until 36 weeks.
Make sure you drink lots, as the air-conditioning means you might get more dehydrated than usual, and get an aisle seat so you can stretch your legs if you need to. You'll be fine.
Hi everyone, Yeah i'm not a good flyer at the best of times so will have to see how we go. I will remember to drink lots of water and try to take a walk, oh its so nerve racking lol... I didn't get a letter to clear me to fly but i do have one saying when my due date is so if i get asked thats all theyll get i suppose.
Thanks for your replies, i feel much better!!
