liddle pixie, i've gained 18kgs and was 57kgs pre-pregancy (and only 5'6"). like you, i don't think i look excessively fat, just very pregnant!! seeing as you were so slim to start with it makes sense that you would put on more than "average" - your body is making sure that it provides a nourishing environment for your baby.

First time I gained about 9kg, this time has been similar I think but I have not weighed myself much this time. I was a bit less pre-pregnancy this time so I might end up putting on a bit more with this one.

I lost all the weight last time within a few weeks but still had the dreaded jelly belly LOL!

I have put on 13kgs so far, I started at 60kgs and I am 5"2. Most of that came on in the 2nd and 3rd tri. I even put on 2 kg in 1 week!
I was starting to stress a little bit but after reading how different we all are and hearing how quick everyone lost it, im feeling at ease. Plus the chocolate tastes sooo good......hehehe

LiddlePixie - Thank you sooooo much for posting this thread! I'm 24 weeks and have put on 8kg which I thought was heaps. I was 63kg and all the books said that I should expect to gain about 10-14kg so I was really stressing about the amount of weight I had already gained thinking I could only put on another 2-6kg in the next 16 weeks. (I know it is just a guide though).

Again, thank you for posting this, you have really alleviated my stress. I didnt want to post this topic either as I also didnt want people to think I was vain.

I have gained 3kg all pregnancy (has come as quite a shock) but i presume this is because i had a high BMi (overweight by about 15kg) and so I havent put on as much.

I didn't look "real" pregnant until I was around 32 weeks. (just still looked overweight, esp. when i was sitting down !!!) At my birthing class i felt like an imposter when i compared myself to the other ladies who were also 34 weeks at the time, but i have come out these last few and am really showing now.

I must admit i have adopted a healthier lifestyle whilst I have been pregnant and hope to keep this up once bubs arrives!!

    Take care,

I started at 70 kg and by 18 weeks the scales said 73 and I was really impressed with myself....however - at my 32 week Dr's appointment they did say 85 and I was a little down about that. But my diet has changed completely (for the better) and baby is in excellent health so I will continue what I am doing and hopefully will lose some (if not most) after the birth. I was O/weight when I got pregnant according to BMI (I too am a shortie at 5 ft 2) and lots of people have commented on how big I am now even though I am only 34 weeks - i put it down to my height and not having much room to grow upwards - so she grows outwards!

I put on 30-35kg with DS.
I had lost a lot of weight before TTC, and was at about 72-75kg when I fell pg.

At my 12 week check I had put on 2 kilos, which was great.
Sadly after that it averaged about 1 kilo a week, but cos I am so tall, people including my dr and midwives kept saying I didin't look like I'd put on that much (I was only ever weighed at my hospital booking in appt, and once at 41 weeks pg).

It really does vary so much from one person to the next. I put my large weight gain down to a few things:

    1) because I'd lost weight I went to see a dietician to make sure I was eating enough, and the right foods while pg (at about 12 weeks I saw her...) there was just far too much food, and in particular dairy in it..

    2) I did have a big baby, but this would account for only an extra kilo or so

    3) waaaaaaaaaaaay too many frosty fruits and milky bars like 1 or the other every day or so.

I lost 15 kilos in about 3 weeks, so yeah a lot was fluid etc, and th b/f really helped I think. But the rest stayed put until July this year (DS is 2 in Nov) when I really decided to buckle down and get motivated. Only 7 kg to go.

Next time (hopefully next year) I'm going to really focus and try not to gain so much!

I am at the bottom end of healthy BMi so I'm pretty small and I gained 18kg and by the time DD was 6 months old, I had lost 21kg. breastfeeding is the best diet ever!

What was really bizarre was showering in the first few weeks. Every time you get in the shower and feel your butt etc, you can literally FEEL that it is smaller. Really bizarre but awesome... LOL

Like everyone says, the important thing is feeling healthy and bub's health. My mum is teeny tiny and she put on 20-30kg with all 5 of her pregnancies and still (at nearly 60 years old) is less than 50kg so your body can def. handle the fluctuations.

i was 54kg before i got pg.. now i don't even want to know.. i'm pretty sure i put on about 10kg in the second trimester alone.. so really i'm not getting on any scales because if i know how much i put on i will probably loose the plot lol

my diet has not been the most healthy eating.. but i just satisfy my needs by eating what ever i want.. hahaha isn't that selfish.. lol

I'm 5'11 and pre-prenancy weighed around 63kg, and like you did the whole modelling thing but i still ate like a horse then too at beginning of pg i lost 5 kg, and since have put on 9kg - which makes me 4kg above pre-pregnancy weight. That said, i still have a fair way to go! I love the choc chip cookies too hehe

I'm 40+wks and have only put on 5kgs...all 3 preg's have been between 4-6kgs, but i'm also a bit pear shaped and tend to "absord" alot of my own body weight into the baby...i make jokes to the Dr that i have a couple of camel humps out back that sustains me and bub I've eaten pretty much anything i want....particularly chocolate but then once i have the baby, i lose about 8-12kgs straight away. I don't think my body is capable of putting on 20+kg during pregnancy, i'd be in some serious bad health....but a couple of my friends and sister's have put on 20-30kg with their preg's and managed fine. I think it just depends on your body...and as someone above already said, as long as both you and bub are healthy and being nourished, its all good, and i wouldn't be too worried.

i put on 17 kilos in my first pregnancy but only got to 34 weeks and 6 days so would have been well over 20 kgs if i got to full term. 16 kilos with the second pregnancy which got to 38.5 weeks and so far with this pregnancy at 28 weeks and 6 days i have put on 10 kilos. this third time i have been a lot more careful with eating and have been exercising more, although am still eating lots of choc and lollies as cant resist. i found with the first two pregnancies i lost the weight really quickly with breastfeeding.

i personally think the 10-15kgs that most of the pregnancy books recommend is unrealistic for most women, especially those on the underweight side. most girls who are underweight prepregnancy easily put on 20plus kilos, up to 30 and then lose it quickly afterwards.

I can honestly say that I lost the will to know after I picked up 15kgs
But the next one I am monitoring the weight gain more closely. I am having a hard time losing it!!

It is really nice to hear from all you other ladies who are gaining a little more than what the books "recommend". With my first pg, I put on about 8kg, but I was sadly overweight (97kg - should be 68.) Lost baby weight plus some by six week visit. Gained back to my pre-pregnant weight, and then lost about 13-14 kg by dieting, before becoming pg with DD2. Gained 16kg with that pg, and lost it all in a few months. With this baby, I had morning sickness that made me want to EAT, without much vomitting. So I've gained at least 16kg so far, and haven't been on the scale for a while. I was also getting worried about gaining too much, but at least I'm not alone! And the weight does come off again, between breastfeeding, and a little extra effort to be more active and eat properly.

I was 54kg now Im 78.4kg and feeling heavy. Nows the time where bub starts to really bulk up so I can see me hitting the 80s. I hope my placenta weighs 15kg or boy got some work ahead of me to shift it... he-he.
Love this guilt free eating though, cant eat enough steak ATM...

Kaylene - I hope I have one of those placentas too!!!
I started out at 58kg, and have put on 16kg so far (at almost 28 weeks). I'm eating pretty much what I normally eat (maybe one extra snack in the afternoon), but I am a lot less active than normal (not by choice!! I just get so sore when I overdo it!!). I'm taking heart in everyones' stories about how quickly they lose the weight
