    Question out of breath...

For the past 2 weeks, I have been feeling 'out of breath'. Sometimes it gets to the point where i feel as if i am going to faint! Is this another third trimester symptom, or should i be getting it checked out. Thanks in advance for you help.

I feel out of breathe too, but I am short & the baby takes up all my space!

But having said that the Midwives always ask me... if I ever feel out of breathe... so maybe call & let your carers know!???

I feel out of breath a lot of the time. I think everything is just squashed up in there! They say it is a 3rd trimester symptom because everything is moved up and squashes your lungs a bit or something so you can't breathe aswell. I read that once bubs drops that you should be able to breath easier!

I had this alot when pg.... bub just squashes everything up! i was about 34 weeks and still teaching and i would be talking to my grade and almost panting - it sounded like i had run a marathon - they thought i was nuts!! Let your carers know anyway thought and once bub drops a bit you will find it eases up!
    Good luck!

Bubs drop at different stages.. with me it was about 3 weeks before I think?? Once that happened, breathing was definitely a LOT easier!!

Breast pads can be bought from either.... I found Big W pretty good for these things and I get the Rite Aid ones cos you can get bigger boxes from there and their prices are good.

I was getting to the point of panicking the breathlessness was getting so bad! Then a few weeks ago I realised I could breathe again. Sure enough, at my next OB appt, bub had turned head down - what a relief!

I hope it moves & gives you some room soon!

I love the pidgeon breast pads - ultra slim, you can get them at the supermarket! Good luck!

Hi there ... I am also out of breath and I have also heard it's a 3rd tri thing. But I am also experiencing a bit of sharp(ish) pain every so often on cervix region (I guess...) and low belly. Guess this is also normal? Not really really bad pain, just sharp ...

How do you know when bub drops?

    Hi Mysti,

I had very very sudden shortness of breath at 25 weeks- as in, I'd carry a cup of milo from the tea room at work to my desk and be panting as though I'd run a marathon. I told my OB, as I was rather worried, and the next thing I was hospitalised for a suspected blood clot in my lungs. Seven doctors, four nights, untold numbers of midwives, zillions of blood tests and dozens of scans later, it was concluded that I didn't have a clot- I had severe asthma, which I have never ever had in my life. But the steroids and Ventolin helped enormously.

I'd definitely ask your care provider about it- at this stage, it's most likely just the baby taking up every square inch, but better safe than sorry.

I bought my breast pads from the ABA- they're cotton and washable. No idea how comfy they are yet.

The cervix pain is normal - it is the baby either jumping on or headbutting you! I usually find that if I do a few pelvic floor exercises it goes away. As for breast pads, I found the pigeon ones to be the best with DD - they have a sticky bit that sticks on to your bra and keeps them in place. The ultra-slim ones were the most comfy. As for the breathlessness, it is normal, as the baby is taking up a lot of space and all your insides are squished up - just like it gets hard to eat because your stomach is squished, you can get breathlessness because your lungs are squished! As for when the baby "drops" - no idea!!!! I can't remember!

Wish I had the hard to eat issue! haha Chocolate seems to go down a treat!
Yes, today I became out of breath on an escalator! Ridiculous.
I am seeing Ob on Monday and I will mention the breathlessness. What a scary scenario Kirsten, glad all is ok.

I guess the pain is a good reminder to actually do the pelvic floor exercises!

Anyone else also having trouble sleeping at night but totally exhausted during the day?

Absolutely - I don't get refreshing sleep at all - when you're pg you generally have more REM sleep and less deep sleep - also the constant weeing upsets sleep cycles as well. I have also had bad insomia and find myself lying in bed wide awake at 11:30 some nights - and then the little bugger starts to kick and that keeps me awake even more!

Yes exactly! I have actually taken the day off work today -- not that I am sleeping either though! And to be honest it is a good opportunity to actually clean the house before all parents descend this evening for dinner! I will start that soon ... first a cuppa!
But yes, like yesterday I thought I would never get through work, then had my hospital prenatal and thought I would crash at home, but then was still awake at 11!
    So frustrating!
