DD1 was born 14 days overdue, as far as the hospital would let me go before they pushed for induction. It was spontaneous, but pre-labour started at 12 days overdue, so they were not rushing as things were happening.

Angie had a few signs of overcooked, peeling skin, and the placenta was ready to start breaking down, but she was perfectly fine. Its the placenta that can cause the problems, and I am sure if you express your concerns they will monitor it and make sure you dont put baby at risk.

I started thinking Angie was never going to come and my mum had come on 2 weeks holiday to see us starting on her due date. She only just got to see baby and went back home the very next day. Make plans. Babies love messing with them!

Hun, Tracey's little girl is not likely to have passed due to being overdue. I have just read your belly buddies thread, and noticed that Tracey's last post included higher BP and swelling, which are indicators of PE. PE does affect the placenta, which is why most PE are induced early or medically needed caesers. Tracey's bub also needed to be on a ventilator. Unfortunately she is one of those rare cases where something has gone wrong, and until Tracey comes online and is ready to share her story, we won't know what caused her to have such a short life. But I can certainly understand how you are feeling!!

My thoughts and prayers also go to Tracey and her family at this time

SJ, Follow your insticts, get a scan to reassure you, and if you notice anything out of the ordinary (like swelling) then get investigated. Let your MW know that a friend has recently lost her baby at 1 day old and you really need some reassurance. Your baby is just fine hun, but quite comfortable. They are the only ones that know when they are ready to come out.

Kaz- Yeah they do know I have earlier dates but they're just going by theirs. I think I just need to stop thinking about what might happen too and focus on now. Now I am 8 days overdue and that is not heaps! That is average for first time mums. If still nothing by Saturday then I will talk to my midwife when she calls and tell her about my worries.

ali- Thankyou. Logically I know that Tracey's situation was different but it's just such a shock and makes you think that you just never know what can happen which is so scary. I love this little baby so much already, I just want it out here safe where I can see that everything is ok!! Thankyou for your reassurance, it really helps.

spice- thankyou, I'm trying to keep telling myself that!

I'm not sure if this is an option for you, SJ, but given your worry, do you think you could pop in and see your GP and get a referral for a scan?
I'm not sure if you would have to pay for it, but your GP could request that they bulk bill and that it is necessary to check out placenta function.
It might be just what you need to keep your mind at rest.
In saying that, I am sure your baby is absolutely fine from what you've reported - lots of movements, your good BP & generally good health, I would think bubs is perfectly healthy and is just needing a little extra baking time.
But go for the scan if you think you need it.

SJ I understand your worry! But take comfort in the fact that all was perfectly well at your checkup. By the way...

There is a place in Toowong that does bulk billed scans, it's on Coro drive just past the blue tower at toowong (i.e. closer to the city) called x radiology.

I hope you don't need the scan though and things start happening for you naturally in the next few days. Sending you labour vibes!

I could go to the GP and get a referral. But I'm in a midwifery group program and have my own midwife and everything so I should probably just ask her about it. I think if nothing has happened by Saturday I will talk to her about it when she calls me. Or if for some reason I feel more worried before then but you girls have helped me feel a bit better about it as usual!! Thankyou

Kitten- I already spent all my money on acupuncture

SJ I have a plan. Get in the car on sunday (if you haven't started labour by then) and come visit me . I am sure that being so far away from the hossy will make those contractions come hard and fast LOL.
