    PUPPPS and steroid cream

    Hi ladies,

I've recently developed PUPPPS and the insanely itchy rash has spread from my abdomen to my thighs and arms. My ob has prescribed a steroid cream called Diprosone OV and she tells me it is safe to use and should not affect the fetus. I just wanted to know if anyone else has used this cream before and what they thought of it?
At the moment, I'm trying to leave it as a last resort and have been taking Pinetarsol baths and having a 'pregnancy safe' anti-histamine at night.

To be perfectly honest with you the corticosteroid creams did absolutely nothing for my PUPPPs so I ended up giving up on them very quickly. Have a look at this thread for some ideas of other things to try...

OMG PUPPPS is positively horrid!!! I was so itchy and it went to my legs and arms too.

My doc gave me Betamethasone Valerate cream - the name on the tube is Cortival and OMG the relief I felt was amazing!! I also had Telfast - non drowsy. I was lucky though and didn't get PUPPPS til around 35ish wks. I seriously feel for you as it's really no fun at all. If you need to use it, I say use it. I didn't want to but was glad I did, at least I could sleep.

Oh i feel your pain. I had it but only on my stomach and had the Diprosone OV too. I found it to be quite effective. It started to work after a couple of days. The ointment is quite sticky and gross though. I had it worse in the middle of summer and the only thing besides the ointment i used for relief was having the coldest water running over my stomach.

Thanks for all your replies. I've succumbed to the itch and have just bought the Diprosone OV this morning. The Pinetarsol relieved the itchiness for a while, and the Polaramine only did so for a few hours, but I was still finding myself scratching like crazy during the night. I'll follow my docs instructions and hopefully some relief will be on the way! I'm sure my case of PUPPPS is not as bad as some ladies but I can't imagine this could be any worse!! Oh well, it'll all be worth it in a couple months time!

Try Dandelion Root as well (from the health food shop), it reduces the redness & heat from the rash & eases the itching if you keep using it. Same as the Polaramine, I found it was effective only when I was taking it consistently morning & night every day.

I just thought I would update this post and let everyone know what happened with my PUPPPS. I did end up using the Diprosone OV cream and after 2-3 days, the redness and itching on my belly completely improved and was gone within the week. I had mild breakouts across my body including my arms and thighs, but the cream also did it's thing. I would say I used it quite sparingly, and was ecstatic with it's results. I was also using Pinetarsol in the shower and bath for a couple of weeks, and felt that it relieved the need to scratch. The PUPPPS symptoms have completely gone now, and bubs appears to be doing fine and growing well.

Smile nothing seemed to work unfortunately

I feel for you. I was prescribed all different types of creams and tried telfast and palaromine and none stopped the itch. The chemist then tried to make me a menthol cream by adding some peppermint stuff to the lotion. This was a relief for about a minute and then it was back to scratching again. I had it from about week 33 and it got so unbearable that i couldnt sleep. I asked them to induce me and they did at 39 weeks. best of luck...try cold baths.
