    Unhappy Separated pelvis OUCH

    Need I say more?

My midwife on Thursday she felt the front of my pelvis (can't remember what its called, pubis something ...) and said she thought it was separating after I mentioned it hurt. Fair enough I thought, it didn't really hurt that much, and I just put it down to good ol' pregnancy! She put me in rest for a number of things. Not strict bedrest though, just nothing strenuous, which I assumed to mean no rearranging my lounge room or running any marathons.

So yesterday I had a doctors appointment, and I walked to it. It wasn't very far really, like a 20 minute walk there and back at the most. I thought it was ok, just walking, nothing strenuous, and I was feeling really lazy having done absolutely nothing the past week and a bit.

Haven't I paid for it. Got home after my walk, was pretty sore but didn't think much of it as it was just the normal kind of sore. Sat down on the net to do some assignments, and when I get up it was aching a bit more. Come dinner time I was limping, and come bed time I couldn't even roll in bed as lying on my side and lifting one leg sent the most disgusting pain through my pelvis and hips.

Now I am hobbling through the house like a little old lady. Getting up hurts, sitting down hurts, laying down hurts more, and moving hurts.

    Owwwie it hurts!

    Hi Leasha

I'd suggest you go and see a physio. I had this from Week 28 and everyone reassured me that it would go away once I gave birth or worse case scenario a few weeks after birth.

I still freekin have it NINE MONTHS later. I can't roll in bed, bending down is still difficult especially to lift DD and it is a major downer in my life because I don't have much time if I"m going to have another child but I don't know how I would cope looking after two while in so much pain.

Go see a physio. They will probably give you exercises you can do and/or a belt and tell you to put ice packs on. They may even suggest pilates. Mine improved out-of-sight after the pilates so that's definitely worth doing.

In the meantime, keep your knees together at all times especially when getting out of bed. When you sit, try to have your hips higher than your knees too. Basically you want to keep your hips in alignment at all times so things like moving stuff on the floor with your feet is a definite no-no.

Get thee to a physio. It WILL probably go away with the birth but the earlier you treat it the better the chances of that happening.

I know exactly how you feel. I have had this pain for quite a few weeks now and it's just getting worse and worse! Just walking to and from my car hurts like crazy.

I spoke to my ob and he just said basically that the lovely pg hormones progesterone (sp) and relaxin are doing their job and relaxing not only your muscles, but the cartilage between the bones to help the baby move through your pelvis. Unfortunately, by relaxing these pubic/pevlis bones, they can sometime rub/grind together - sounds great huh .

Not sure what can be done (other than having the baby). Here's hoping that the pain doesn't get any worse

I feel the very same pain. I've had it since about 12 weeks and I also had it last pg.
I saw the physio at Caboolture hospital yesterday and have now ordered a brace support thingy. It felt so good when she strapped me in cause I am in severe pain 24/7.
Just a few tips to help with the pain, whenever you change position or get up and down, clench your buttocks and pelvic floor muscles. Since doing this yesterday I can get up off a seat or the bed with greater ease.
    Another thing is regular massage.
I have now been pretty much put on rest as there is nothing that can be done about it, it's just unfortunate the the relaxing hormones released during pg have gone a bit over board.
HTH, good luck and take care of yourself.

Leasha this is the same thing that Vic and I have been having since much earlier in our pregnancies. Pelvic Instability - and yes it is completely normal for third trimester. It is one of those things though - you either get it, or you don't!

Pilates, physio, osteo, support belt and my OB also recommended acupuncture, but I haven't tried that one. The rest I do and although some days are more painful than others, it has remained manageable. Which is great, seeing as my OB told me that if it gets too severe I would probably need to be induced early. Some people end up in wheel chairs or with a walking frame.

If you google pelvic instability a website comes up that has some great advice on managing it. Things like avoiding bending (I rearranged my kitchen to avoid bending as much), avoiding stairs, keeping your knees together etc. Take a look!

Hi. Sorry, but I had I've had it since about 4 months pg. My DS is nearly 13 weeks old & it's still here. In my thread Pelvic/groin/hip pain in late pg there are a few suggestions.
Chiropractor or osteopath I've heard are best.

    As MT said

You will have good and bad days/weeks, sometimes I feel fine then I go for a walk and don't seem to get very far and the pain kicks in, also Beans head is down low, which makes me waddle a lot more making it all more painful!

My DH and now one of the girls at work reckon they are going to get me a walking frame DH has also mentioned a sack truck!!
