Post Help was it my waters?

Hi everyone i need your expertise, I have had a very odd day, absolutely exhausted, very very teary almost pre-menstrual and I swear I just had a leakage, it was warm and definitely not urine....so I have put on a pad and we shall see.

But my question is this, my hospital had drummed into us to call when or if our waters break, so how can we be sure it real?? Do you get contractions, if your waters break?? or should I give it at least an hour, make sure I am still leaking and then call...This whole labour thing is so confusing, some have a show, some get contractions, some have their water break but it seems that nothing is consistant....and given that I want it so badly how can I be sure??

    Please help Lis

You don't always get contractions if your waters break. Even though it was warm and not urine, it could have been mucous, it is normal to have a LOT of watery, thin mucous at the end of your pg. Have a smell of your pad - if it is your waters it will smell sweet. There is no need to rush to the hospital - even if it is a leak nothing will happen if you don't go and get it checked right away. If she is still moving and you feel *normal* then I would wait and see until the morning.

I thought waters always broke with a gush- as in you wouldn't be wondering if it was the waters, you would be certain. And the waters aere better contained with a towel or one of those nappies you have waiting........ie a pad just wouldn't hold it. But, others may be different but even if the trickle is continuous, say over an hour, then that would be it. Not much harm in waiting though unless you haveother signs. GL.

Thanks ladies, well false alarm, the trickle didnt continue and I have no other signs. Bubs is still movng well, but I may have to go to bed for a nap in a minute, even though I had a great sleep last night, im still totally drained.

I guess its all part of the countdown, but hopefully it means its not too far away now.
