I'm no longer driving further than about 15 mins from home. If I travelled anywhere more than say 40mins away, would make sure I have my mobile phone, ob contact details, and know where the nearest hossy is!
I am still travelling, but am not as far along as you are. I do have my antenatal card with me at all times in case... I think they mean no long trips like flying etc - which need to stop around 34wks. In terms of driving, I would not go more than an hour from home alone, or a few with DH...
My grandfather passed away when I was 36 weeks. I travelled in a car for 8 hours (700km) to the funeral and 700km back 3 days after the funeral. I really don't recommend travelling that far if it is non essential travel. I was pretty uncomfortable sitting in the car. The whole time I was away I was worried I was going to go into labour as well and I didnt want that. I wanted to be close to my ob but it all worked out and I got to say goodbye to my lovely Pa.
Unfortunately, at 36 weeks I HAVE to travel 800 km. I will be giving birth there so really dont have much of an option. I had never heard before about this travelling too far but it makes a lot of sense. I will be travelling 120 km once or twice before then but with my DH. I am pretty sure it is going to be very uncomfortable. Peeing every hour doesnt really help! But I just hope baby is patient enough to wait until after 36 weeks so that I can get to where I need to be.
Scary thought being stuck in the middle of nowhere and going into labour. Thank God for the RFDS!!!
COme to think of it.. my 30 mins trips were regular ones to the hospital... but i did move from NSW to VIC when i was 36 weeks pregnant and we done the 10 car drive 3 times between 33-36 weeks!!
I was fine... i was actually comfortable in the car!!!
Thanks guys, im still travelling to do groceries etc, its about 25min away because im in a rural area i think ill keep going until im unable.... i may have to enlist the help of my DH soon it is getting harder to get all the shopping done.
