    What snacks for labour bag?

Anyone got any ideas for what food and drinks to pack in a labour bag? I will need things for DH as well as for me, but preggo fog is preventing me from thinking of anything.

Last time (and again this time) i packed:

    Powerade
    Water
    Museli bars
    Suckable lollies (fruit flavoured ones)
    Le Snacks

All of that was for DH except the lollies as my hospital only allowed you to drink water thru out labour, and to be honest....eating food was the last thing on my mind!! The lollies were handy for post birth when i wanted something sweet to suck on.

    Hi Suzi,

How exciting!!! Not long for you now!

In my bag I packed the small packets of chips, a bag of mixed lollies and took Gatorade. I didn't eat any of what I packed though, DH did however! When I was in labour the midwives offered me breakfast and lunch which I said "yes" to both!! Think of the things you really love to snack on ie. chips and are easy to chew/eat or maybe something chewy could be a good distraction Maybe even some fruit or carrot sticks if you like them?!?!

As Kimbaz said... eating was the last thing on my mind when I was in real labour. I had just been induced when breakfast came so was still not in much pain and when I had lunch I had been given an epidural. I did however appreciate the leftover bags of chips in the middle of the night during my hospital stay!!

    I really have no idea

I packed dried fruit & nuts, rice crackers, jelly beans, chocolates, poppers & waters. I didn't eat any of it during labour - but it sure came in handy in the following days while i stayed in hospital!!

I took all sorts of things to snack on and ended up having some toast that my wonderful midwife offered to make me. Didnt feel like anything else since it was only a 5 1/2 hour labour

Afterwards I was starving and again my wonderful midwife had kept a lunch tray for me!

My DP didnt even snack on the stuff I took he preferred the snack machines and cafeteria

But over the few days I was in the hospital I snacked on some of the things I had taken such as grapes, crackers etc.

    Good luck!!

    I took:
3 or 4 100% juice apple juice poppers (frozen but I took them out of the freezer when labour started to heat up so they had melted a little by the time I wanted them - although DH still had to run them under hot water for a few minutes)
    a few mandarins
    jelly beans
    glucose lollies (natural confectionary company)
    muesli bars

In the end, I only guzzled the poppers - they were awesome - nice and cold and refreshing and a nice kick for the blood sugar! I will def. be taking them next time.
The thought of lollies made me feel ill and I didn't want food. Afterwards was a different story though - I ate the mandarins as well as 2 sandwiches my MW bought in. I was STARVING!

Yeah eating was the last thing on my mind too - tho apparently not dh's! We were lucky - I went into labour at 1am, so hunger wasn't really a factor til closer to the moment for him. I did pack small poptops of red cordial. Also packed a bag of lollies for dh. He ate them. I just drank water thru the labour and had the cordials after Jensen was born. The way dh got thru the hunger was to suck on my gas til he was high enough - then he was good! lol

sorry I couldn't be any more help!

I packed fruit juice poppers, brekkie drinks (for husband), jelly snakes, some choccy (for husband), and some muesli slice I'd made. Didn't get to have any of it in labour as my syntocinon induction resulted in me having one continuous contraction for 4 hrs (and nausea and vomiting) before I got an epidural, then they wouldn't let me eat anything anyway. I gave the Dr some muesli slice though as he had been having a shocker of a day! The juice and jelly snakes were great for afterwards though, a nice snack.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like whatever I pack it will probably be eaten by DH...

I packed heaps and heaps of food for me and DH but the only thing that I ate was chupa chups because I could have a quick suck in between contactions and then put it on the wrapper when I was having a contraction. I sipped water all labour too. Don't pack anything heavy (food wise) because you amazingly don't eat you are too in your zone to. DH on the other hand will need more food to get him through the day. Best of luck
