    What is Sweeping Membranes??

Someone I know mentioned that they had a Sweep at 38 weeks and I didn't know what that was and was embarassed to ask.

Could someone enlighten me and explain what it is?
    Thanks

    Hi Dawnatello12

The Midwife OB puts a finger inside your cervix and sweeps it back and forth between your cervix and membraines. It can often bring on labour.
Also there is no need to be embarassed there was probably a few other people thinking the same thing. If you have a question just ask. You will not be judged for not knowing something

    Is it painful?

It can be very uncomfortable. Especially if your cervix is high

I had this done at 41 weeks. It was uncomfortable but didn't hurt.

I had it done at 8 days overdue and then I was already 3cm. It didn't really hurt just felt a little uncomfortable and I think that was mostly from the pressure.
