    Who has used Zantac ?

I am a heartburn sufferer and was on pariet before I got pregnant with this second Bub ..
I stopped taking it as soon ask found out I was pregnant, have been managing on gaviscon , quick ease, tums , bi carb etc but now it is so bad I can't eat or drink fluid. :/ as sleeping that's gone , even sitting up on 4 pillows I still have it so bad I End up crying ..

Zantac seems to be the go to med for pregnancy even though its not category A..
Has anyone taken it? Did it work? Any negative effects on you or Bub ..
Can I just grab some from the shop or should I wait to see a dr ?

I'm jist worried about getting dehydrated as I can't drink much and I'm being sick from the acid everyday ...

I used Zantac and Mylata throughout both pregnancies. I had pariet in my 3rd trimester with DS1 when my heartburn was just out of control, but when it got to that stage with mypg with DS2, I asked for pariet and was told it wasn't safe. Weird.

Anyway, I just got zantac over the counter. I would use mylanta until that was not effective anymore (or if I was throwing it up too much) and then switch to the 12 hour Zantac.

And milk. I can't express how much milk I was drinking - it really helped. Litres a day though. I'd often have a whole litre just on the train ride home.

Ask nurse on call or the pharmacist or someone by all means, but no issues here.

    Have you tried accupunture?
I had it during the last trimester and he also addressed my reflux.

With my other two pregnancies heart burn nearly killed me. I was in so much pain. Nothing worked. The ob prescribe me rani and another one on a prescription. It was a heaven sent. I had to take twice daily it was that bad. I would vomitt in my sleep. This one and I'm 18 weeks and it's slowly starting. Not eating at night helped and eating thinks like cakes and breads...

I've used zantac, helped quite a bit. I figured my other option was oesophageal damage and sleeplessness. Just let your care provider know you're taking it I guess, but mine never blinked. Milk can be a mixed blessing; instant relief, but about 30 mins later I think as your stomach digests it, it can get pretty uncomfy. If zantac doesn't work, then see about talking to your doc. I've also heard great things about acupuncture, but since zantac worked for me (and was cheaper and more convenient than acupuncture) I went with that. If you want to avoid zantac, that could be worth a shot. Hope you get some relief, it's awful isn't it.

I used it in my pregnancy with DD 2 on the suggestion of my OB. No side effects and it was a god send for me.

Ranitidine is Cat B1 in pregnancy (in Australia) meaning it is perfectly safe to use. I think it's much better than putting up with the horrible heartburn and reflux! It works pretty quickly, and is longer lasting than antacids (it prevents the production of stomach acid, which causes the burn) . Have you had a chat with your OB or GP regarding Pariet in pregnancy? It is also a B1 category, it is usually preferred that people try Zantac first, but if you were on it before, they would probably be happy with you continuing on. But pop into your pharmacy and have a chat with your pharmacist - we can help!

Thanks everyone .. I had it with my DD as well but stuck it out and didn't take anything , but the last few weeks in this pregnancy have been a nightmare , no sleeping , vomiting , can't eat and the worst is not being able to drink anything .., I'm so thirsty :/
I keep thinking that in this case the benefits do out weight any risk as if I can't drink fluids then how is that good for my baby :/
I just sent hubby to get my some Zantac and I took one and I feel so guilty it's silly .. So I'll see If it works .
I will have a chat to my MW or GP as well .
For some reason I thought pariet was cat C ? Well either way I was concerned to take it during pregnancy which is why as soon as I got a positive test I didn't take anymore .
I will look into the acupuncture , have to see how much it costs as money is pretty tight ATM , but I have heard that it can be good for reflux Etc .. If it worked that wild be amazing !!!!

And as for milk I can't drink milk so that's out for me , annoying as Iv heard so many people swear by it ..

I was allergic to milk until pregnancy... started craving it so terribly that I decided it was irrelevant how much I vomited, I had to drink it ... and it didn't make me sick so you never know.

My ob with my first pg recommended and prescribed periet without a second thought. My ob for my second pg said it wasn't the right category and she wasn't comfortable prescribing it. So I've got no idea.

I really hope you find something which gives you some relief.

I had dreadful heartburn with DD2. I used Zantac on my ins advice. By that stage, everything else had stopped working for me. I was told to take 1 twice a day. If I missed one, I would suffer terribly for it.

As for implications for dd2? Well, other than suffering colic and reflux herself, she has no health issues and is a delightful little thing!

My OB told me to take Zantac and it helped me (I was throwing up blood at some stage it was so bad), though a couple of chemists wouldn't sell it to me as they declared it unsafe (even after I specified my doc told me to (?!!) then I just got it from woollies after that, they don't question you.
I wanted to add that since having my son an acupuncturist told me milk makes it alot worse and wasn't surprised I had such bad heartburn when I was drinking 2-3litres a day, bit unsure about this but could be worth checking? It's all I survived on for about 3 months!
Hope it settles down for you.

I took a tablet last night and about 2 hours later I had an awful headache and I felt very sick all night , I read that they are both common side effects of the drug ..
I was a me to lay down a bit so I'm thinking it helped with the HB some what ..
One thing I noticed was about 2 hours or so after I took it , bubs was going crazy in my belly non stop moving really active , wondering if this could be from the tablet ? :/

Have a MW appointment Friday and a dr appointment tomorrow so will be bringing this up with them then ..
But in the mean time I called mothersafe and she said Zantac was completely fine in pregnancy , she did mention another one as well that had apparently had more human studies done on it , "losec " ..

Ok apparently google says losec is catogory B3 ...
I have no idea , I'll have to see the dr ha ha
