I was miffed to find out today that my DS1 who is staring pre-school next year 2 days a week (which is supposed to be 'free' for kids in ACT) has been sent a letter asking for $80 (voluntary) contribution and $70 for 'supplies' (which are communal and over-priced IMHO - and some of the supplies, like ballpoint pents and whiteboard markers are obviously for teacher use.)
I wasn't expecting this for pre-school, because DD1's was actually free, and had no costs whatsoever.
Well I for one am looking forward to school as kindy nearly broke us this year.
But our Kindy was $600 per term, yes that's right per term!!!! my SIL in who lives in SA could not believe it. Plus we fundraised heaps, a sausage sizzle, disco, pie drive......all my money went to kind this year.
As for prep in a public school all we have to pay is $110 and this supplies everything to their classroom that they will need.
Year 11 books (if he goes) - $230 + fees $510
Year 12 books - $310 + fees $490
So $1540 for high school and the $400 odd for the primary and kindy stationary and fees... $1940 odd dollars ow!!
Yes imagine my suprise when on info night at the school we were told only $110 for the year. I almost cried tears of pure joy...this is why we chose public as we just can't afford a private school right now. I figured it would cost the same as kindy, I didn't know any different. We are going to so many more reno's done in the new year
Kindy is a new thing to QLD in the past few years so it seems, it's all run differently and I guess this is where the cost comes in. As it is, Christmas is almost here and last day of kindy has been and we still owe a little bit on the account.
