Yep, I took DD (grade 6) out of school for a week and a day to attend family wedding interstate. It *was* the last week of term (so not a lot going on anyway) but school was happy with a note beforehand. I checked with the teacher if any work needed to be done while we were away, but realistically, this is primary school.
My DD has attended 3 private schools (she is nearly 16) since 1999. All Anglican Girls' Schools. We've taken her out for several days here and there. Short holidays interstate etc. We told the schools why and there was never an issue. Of course you still have to pay the fees. But I've heard of families taking girls out to go abroad for weeks at a time and never heard anything said against it. I've worked at one of those schools too. I cant imagine why they would ... unless maybe it was for a term... i think if a child is out for a whole term the dept of education has to be notified and a program of set work put in place.
Earlier this year we took the kids out of school to go overseas for 6 weeks and it wasnt an issue at all. We simply notified them in writing a few weekd before hand and discussed it with the teachers. We have done this a number of times before for DD all for holidays (short and long) and nothing is yet to be said. Your school should be fine with it.
No issues with the schools that my girls have gone to. They usually take 1 week a year off early term 3. All we do is advise the teachers in advance and they usually arrange some homework for them to do whilst on holidays.
We never had an issue being out of school for any period. I think extended periods, like weeks on end, are not ideal, but they are employed by you. You tell them what is going on, work it with their teachers, who will either provide work in advance or provide catch up when they return.
I have never heard of anyone having issues at all because of the school being private.
I cant thank you all enough for your replies. Exactly as I thought but just wasnt sure if I was missing something.Obviously its just my dad and step mum being difficult. Seems to be the norm!
If it's anything like the private school I went to they won't care as long as your school fees are paid lol! I went overseas for a month in Year 11 and no one batted an eyelid. They did give me a fair chunk of work to do though.
