Bec- hope it doesn't happen again for you 3rd time round .
I sent you a PM.
I wanted to ask you all about reflux ... Joel has it and while it isn't a lot it (but every feed) it bothers him with it - crying/squirming aorund a lot in his sleep or waking him and he is generally unsettled. Also has a sour milk breath.IYKWIM.The Paed is away till after 9th August
When were your babes diagnosed and who precribed meds ? what meds ?. We already raise mattress and try to keep him still after a feed.Sometimes he vomits 1hr or more after a feed.
Ronan is on Zantac for reflux and it works wonders for him otherwise he's very unsettled, cries or squirms alot after or even hrs after a feed so you can tell he's in a little pain, but he also has 1/2 thickner in his bottles with S-26 Gold and barely every vomits after a feed..
He's been on those mixtures since being home and we switched formula's and all he did was vomit even hrs later.. When he has breastmilk he doesn't seem to throw as much but again the Zantac is fantastic as he is never unsettled.. :D
Let us know what happens..
Ella was diagnosed with reflux by pead - but early childhood nurse had pretty much told me so before i was able to see pead. I was told to use Karicare food thickner, then we were put on zantac. Try not to let them be flat on their back - even when changing nappy or at playtime. This worked a little but dd was still quite distressed by it. EC nurse suggested a local Osteopath that had worked wonders for other bubs. So we saw him. After about 3 sessions there was a HUGE difference and after 6-8 her reflux had completely gone! I'd never even heard of an osteopath helping reflux but i now would highly recommend them. It wasn't very expensive, very gentle (most of the time ella was asleep...just like a gentle massage) and didn't take very long.
Good luck with what u try - hope it gets sorted for ur little one
thanks I will ask ECN tomorrow and ask Chiros' DH goes too - they have a new baby too. Is the Zantac in a suspension ? or the tablets you dissolve like for adults?
went and had Nixon weighed again today and boy has he put his foot down on growing!
weight: 4860g up 610g in 2 weeks
length: 59cm up 2.5cm in 2 weeks
head: 38.5cm up 1cm in 2 weeks
we have now finished all newborn nappies and into infant and over the last few days wearing the last of his 0000 stuff. offically today i have put away all 0000 (besides one jumpsuit thats longer) and he's a 000 boy now! hehehe seems like such a milestone to me!
He is going to be tall i think his length keeps going higher and higher on the graph, his arms i think are long too the smaller outfits with sleeves always look like 3/4 length
Trish- Nixon is on Zantec too its a liquid. i need to get him back to dr for check up & increase his dosage. But he def doesn't spew like he was and not in much pain most times he does spew. ive also just started taking him to a osteopath.
Racs- what sort of thickner do u use? where u get it from? wouldnt mind trying and c if it helps
Nic boy Nixon is really putting on the weight isn't he. Patrick weighs 3.480g now up 140g since last Monday!
I think these two should get together and Nixon can show Pat how to stack the weight on!
hehe finally he is becoming a big boy! It did take him a while though, for some time he was only putting on small amounts! is Pat in 0000 now?
Trish...hope you can get Joel's reflux sorted out. I/we haven't had any experience with it to offer you any further advice, but it sounds like the girls have given you some great suggestions.
Nic...those are great results for Nixon. Sounds like you and he are both doing a great job! I think moving into the 000's is a milestone too. I remember packing away all of Josh's little 0000's. It was great that he was growing but made me a little sad at the same time. He's up to 0's now and has just changed nappy sizes too. I think he is going to be tall too. When we mark his length for his corrected age on the growth charts he is almost off the top of the graph altogether! People are constantly commenting on his height!
Nope still in 00000, he doesn't seem to be growing much! He's 55cm now so he has grown but he's still a little doll!
Nic - that is great on Nixon's weight gain - amazing.
I was wondering how long they take to grow out of 0000 - Joel was 2.164 born - and SIL was asking me today would he be in 00 by Christmas ?
I have compared some 000 clothes and Pumpkin Patch were sooo looong compared to other brands (10cms longer).
Trish, I've found that different brands vary a lot size-wise too. For example, with Josh I have always found Bonds stuff has been smaller than average and Pumpkin Patch has generally been bigger than average.
yep bonds sizes are a fair bit smaller i have found.
pumkin patch Nixon still has 0000 pants, its just the jumpsuits with feet in them he grew out of.
its so hard to say this early on for your boys if they will be in 00 or not by xmas. I am thinking Nixon will be coming into 00 around xmas time. He was 2.29 born in april
Jess- oh well Patrick would be getting good wear out of all the 00000 stuff!
Nic- He sure is getting good use out of the 00000 outfits. They fit him so well! Considering Nixon was smaller than Pat when born, he has really kicked on hasn't he!
WoW Nic that is AWESOME results for Nixon.. :confetti: :confetti:
Ronan is going great! He saw his Paed on Thursday and he doesn't need to go back for 2 months! He couldn't believe how amazing Ronan is going weight gain, breathing, developing etc.. He said he was astonished at the results because when he read the hospitals referral he thought he was going to have a chronic lung baby who isn't thriving very well etc.. :D
Ronan's head circ is now 38.5cms and he has put on 734 grams within 3.5 weeks of being home so he weighed 4960 grams as of last Thursday so i can't wait to get him weighed again.. His last weigh in last Thursday saw him put on 280 grams in 6 days.. OooOo btw he's been in 000's for the past 2 weeks! Thankgod he had dozens of clothes as he was only in 0000's for 2 weeks of being home..
WoW everyones bubbas were born so much bigger than Ronan (he was 1.1kgs).. hehehe
PS: Just wondering if anyone else used the "halo" ring for their babies heads? We used it for about 10 weeks with Ronan and he has a beautiful head shape for a premmie, lovely and round..
What a clever boy Ronan is and equally clever Mum !
what is halo ring ?
That is fab news about Ronan
yeah i havent heard of the halo ring? what is it?
great weight gaining Ronan he would have past the 5kg by now whoo hoo! Thats awesome his breathing & Lungs are better then what Paed was expecting! We go back to the Paed in 2 weeks time.
WTG Ronan! What great results. :D
I'm not exactly sure what a halo ring is either?
I don't know if this is similar, but when Joshua was a newborn and didn't have much strength in his neck muscles, we used a tiny horseshoe shaped pillow under his head whenever he was on his back. (Change/play times etc). It held his head and neck in the midline and prevented him from spending too much time on either side, which can result in that "flat" look on the sides of the head.
Hey, im glad everyone is doing well :)
Anneliese is in hospital, i can write whats wrong with her again, it makes me bawl my eyes out-ther thread is posted in the main NICU premmie area...
Patrick must be tiny jess... Anneliese sits perfectly into bonds 0000's, she was only in 00000's between 3-4weeks old. from 0-3, she was barely in baby born clothes (we actually bought her a teddy bear outfit from pumpkin patch, and it was too big for her-it fitted her at 2 weeks old!!) But she's starting to fit intothe proper outfits-pants and jumpers-that she's got. The hospital weighed her today - 3.34kg. last time she was... (forgotten!!) About 2.8kg if i remember correctly. Thats was about 2 weeks ago. I like having a little bubba... now she's getting huge!! Its funny when people ask "WOW she;s tiny, how old is she (expecting "oh, 2 days old" or something") and they hear "Oh, 8 weeks old." The look of shock is so funny...
Simone, so sorry to hear Anneleise has had to go into hospital, i hope she recovers real soon and you can have her back with you at home. It's like Jess things just keep getting thrown at you, but i think it makes you both so much stronger in the end, she is obviously a strong girl to have been able to leave hospital rather quickly to begin with so hopefully she fights through the broncilitis well too.
Hi Girls,
Just checking in.
Simone, sorry to hear Annaleise is unwell, hope she gets better soon, I know it's scary.
Nic, Raca,Jess glad to hear your boys are doing well.
Hi Trish! Thank you for all you support over the last week.
Hi Bec, wondering how you and your gorgeous family is.
I'm so tired. I'm off to sleep in my nice warm bed!
Bec very similar only it's a towel twisted and then made into a ring and taped together.. :D It is used for the same reason you mentioned because Ronan had an egg head and the sides were dinted in so after using the "ring" for 2 months he has a perfect shaped head and barely ever tilts to the side when sleeping.. :D
Tiggy - Enjoy your sleep darl!
Simone - I know what you mean about people asking about how old they are and being shocked.. It's funny seeing people's faces when i say "He's technically 4 1/2 months old but he's classed as 7 weeks old due to being born 13 weeks early" hehehe
Yep totally know the "How old is he" story! i started to get annoyed by everyone ASSUMING he was a newborn, but in the end just accepted that they don't know, they are trying to be nice/polite by paying attention to my darling boy. But it does get a bit repetitive doesn't it!
Racs- How long are you planning to take off work?
Simone - my thought and prayers are with u and ur family - particularly Anneliese. I really hope she has a speedy recovery and is home and healthy with u all very soon :hugs:
I also know what u girls mean about people being surprised at their age. Ella is 1 in 3 weeks and there are bubs at 5 -6 months much bigger. People are shocked - and it doesn't help that she has hardly any fair hair and only 1 tooth (actually tooth #2 cut through today :confetti: ). But premmie or not i think she would have been petite - as i am and it's in both mine and DH's family to be tiny. Still it does get disconcerting!
Rae- Are you having a party for little miss Ella?!
You to Carrie & Bec?
gee there were a few prems in the same week of August last year wasn't there.
Nic - Not 100% sure but most likely 6 months before i need to worry about looking for part-time work.. How about yourself? i bet your one of the lucky ones that has 12 months off? :p
All these birthdays coming up!
heh love Ronan's new ticker photo Racs!
well I've taken 12months maternity leave with my wpork but i really do not want to go back there. i would only want to work a few days and there is no way i could go back to my old position part time, its a full time job so id end up doing something crappy. i wasnt enjoying the last 12months of being there anyway i only didnt resign to keep my options open! will try getting a job closer to home if i have to but my dh runs a business outside of his normal job and am hoping to do some work for that (which will be @ home) & able to get some sort of wage.
do u have any family here to look after Ronan? thats my prob everyone is in sydney so would need to pay child care which might defeat the purpose of working!
If the job was crappy then no use going back eh? even if it's only 2 days a week you will dread going in on those days.. We do have family to look after Ronan BUT only on weekends so if we wanted to go somewhere etc.. otherwise my family are all in Sydney too! Best thing of all though is that the childcare is just a 2min walk away.. :D
Ronan had his 4th monthly immunisations today and is NOT a happy chappy! poor fella.. :(
Poor little Ronan!
Patrick has been out of sorts all day! He has been whinging and sooking so much, but now he is laying her half asleep smiling!
Hey girls :)
Tiff...hi! How are you doing? How are Ivy and Noah going? I hope they are doing better now. We are great thanks. Josh is doing well. We went to premmie playgroup on Tuesday and got the thumbs up from the physio, etc. They said he is catching up to his uncorrected age really well. I'm very proud of him!
Simone...I've been keeping little Anneliese in my thoughts. I hope she is resting comfortably tonight.
Nic...it's funny what you said about a few prems being born all in the same week last August - there's actually one more! Louise (kitten2b) who posts in here sometimes had her little girl on the same day that I had Josh, I think she was about 34 weeks. So in the prem forum we'll have Kyla, Ella, Maria & Josh all turning 1 within 6 days of each other! And yep, we are having a small party for Josh. Mostly family and a few friends. Should be fun!
Poor Ronan! Hope he wakes up feeling better tomorrow, Rakka!
Hi to everyone else too!
We've had a lovely day here - we had a picnic lunch in the park. Josh had a great time trying out all the play equipment. (With mum's help! ;) )
Hey Bec,
Yeah, we are ok.
A week in hospital, with two babies on oxygen, really takes it out of you but we are home and Noah is 100% better. Ivy is still struggling with temps and stuff today but it's so good to be home. i was really scared there for a little while.
You know, I took them up to the local hospital (and I mean that in the loosest sense) and they sent us away, saying they were fine. When we finally got to the bigger hospital, Noah's sats were 87 and Ivy's 89. No wonder they took a long time to recover.
Anyhow, now they know us and they know all our history etc so hopefully the next time I take them in (if there has to be a next time) they will listen. As it stands, I was offered a job as I walked out of Kids ward yesterday!!!!
Noah popped his first tooth while we were in there. The nurses reckoned we might as well add insult to injury. Why not teeth while youre feeling crap! He he, he is pretty proud of himself too, chomped down on his father's unsuspecting finger tonight!
Am very glad to hear that Josh is going so well! I can't believe he is turning one!!!!!
Tiff- glad Ivy & Noah are home and on the mend, that must have been a pretty terrible and stressful week for you all.
Simone thikning of you and Anneleise.
i used to like my job, but was there for 7yrs and a lot changed in the yrs, it wasnt the same company it started off to be. I worked in Bayswater, thats over your way Racs isnt it?
Poor Ronan with his immunisation needles. How many do they get at 4month one? I made DH take Nixon to the 2 month one, he'll have to get his next one soon too.
Glad u had a nice picnic day Bec it was aweful out my way in melb today. (weather wise) we got a pic storm, peed down then saw big lightening followed by the loudest bag of thunder. Dogs went silly, Nixon didnt even wake.
Tiff - glad Ivy and Noah are doing better. U poor thing - it really must take it out of u. Sending heaps of hugs
Simone - also thinking of u guys and hoping Anneliese is improving.
Rac - poor little cherub getting those needles....doesn't it break ur heart - i think it affects me more than Ella when she has hers. Hope Ronan feels better today.
Jess - same goes for Patrick...hope today's a mcuh more pleasant day for u all.
Bec - It was lovely to hear about ur pinic lunch in the park..what a wonderful idea. I should aim to get out with Ella soon :)
Nic - yeah we're having a party for Ella's big day!!! Just a nice lunch with close fam and friends. Been organising her cake, balloons, pink and purple plates and cutlery, party bags.... We're keeping it pretty simple but it'll have the fun party things. Can't wait!!!
A big hello to anyone i've forgotten :hello: - and have a nice day everybody!!!
hi girls just popping in again, I've been absent for a while, just busy with my little man.
All is good here except a great big case of whinging and whining and throwing tantrums. My mum seems to think that he's more bossy than other babies because of what happened to him in the NICU, as in he hated what they were doing to him but couldnt object then, and now that he can object, if he doesn't like something or doesn't want to do something, he objects as strongly as he can. Probably out of fear that he's going to have tubes shoved in him somewhere.....
Hey Bel!
Glad to see you back in the threads!
Was wondering how you and Coby were going.
Hi guys, still around too, just not posting much because hardly any time to myself!
Hope Anneliese and Noah and Ivy get better soon.
All's well on our front.
Hugs
Tiff- what a cute piccy on your ticker!
Hi Bel, maybe Coby is just getting to that age when he has learnt to do whatever means it takes to get what he wants! I remember what one of the nurses said to me when Nixon was in hospital, That we (us parents) will always remember everything our bub went through, all the needles etc, they (the bubs) will never remember any of it, thank god!
I rekon it makes them stronger though. when DH took Nixon for his immunisation he said he hardly even cried, i said probably because he was already used to all the needles and is extra tough for it!
I wonder how little Anneleise is doing today??? Hopefully better than yesterday
Sending hugs to Anneleise and Simone and fam :hugs:
Hi all - I'm back from Port Douglas!!
Gee - you guys have been chatting hard.
Simone - hope Anneliese is doing okay and getting better.
Tiff- Sorry to hear that Noah and Ivy have been in hospital. You are having such a tough time of late aren't you :hugs: and thinking of you
Hi everyone else - Nickers, Bec, Rae, Bel, Rac, Jess, Div.
BTW- I hear you all with the age thing! When people ask Kyla's age I say - nearly one, but she's really only 9 months as she was prem. You get so tired of the explaination on the end...but I feel like I have to explain or they'll think there's something wrong with her.
Well our "holiday" was a bit of a wash out. Kyla got gastro, then I did, then DH and then MIL. Plus we were really worried about Kyla getting dehydrated because she was refusing her feeds. So were at the Dr twice while there.
We really only got to relax for a few days - spent sitting in the sun outside the room (as Kyla was so exhausted that she needed to sleep all the time!). I was sick again last night too :(
We're having Kyla's Birthday and Baptism on 20th August - and have got the invitation's done (DH's aunt runs a printing business and has done them as a present). They're gorgeous!! Now have to start all of the organising!
