I thought I would start a thread for Kitchen Aid owners, where we can share recipes and useful hints and tips. Perhaps bargains as well where we can purchase attachments to add to the KA.
I'm so excited with my purchase today :leap:

I'm so excited with my purchase today :leap:
YAY I'll join! Love my KitchenAid. I mean, um, OUR KitchenAid hahaha.
My favourite recipe isn't a KitchenAid one, but it's all done in the KitchenAid. It's pancakes from Williams-Sonoma. YUM YUM YUM YUM! Seriously, a million times better than any pancake you've eaten!
Since my problems with my gallbladder, I should be having really lean meat, so we buy and trim the meat, and mince it all ourselves now.
I also LOVE making vege rissoles, and chickpea and pumpkin rissoles with a mixure of the attachments and the mixing functions :)
What attachments does everyone have? I have my eye on the ice-cream attachment and mincer...
Oh, and most importantly, what colour do y'all have? I have green....I do like majestic yellow and willow blue though.
Welcome! :hello:
I have the Boysenberry. No attachments as yet. I'll have to wait until my Birthday.
I think the next purchase will be a cover approx. $6O and perhaps the $299 attachment package Indadhanu mentioned.
Can people with KA blenders and food processors join?????? I have mum's old Kenwood as a mixer and it is still great after 40 yrs so I can't justify the cost of a KA mixer but I do lust after one!!
I am in love with my blender and food processor! They sit on the bench so I can admire them! I got black as it matches my oven and we haven't redone the kitchen yet so don't know what colour it will be.
I love my KA! Mine is Pearl Metallic as it matches with our other stainless steel things.
I haven't bought any attachments yet and get a little overwhelmed when trying to decide which one/s to buy first.
Maybe I should just save up a whole heap of money and buy all the accessories in one hit ;)
I'm in!! I have the metallic red one! Makes the BEST pavlova ever :)
I'm interested in getting the mincer and the pasta maker - heard that it's fantastic.
I've got the candy apple red KA and have the ice cream bowl... I've made the vanilla bean ice cream from the book that came with it and it's gorgeous, am a little shocked at how much fat and sugar go into it though LOL.
My next investment is going to be the grater set.
Oooh, i'm joing in on the KA love too.
I have the boysenberry one too. I have the 3 piece pasta roller attachment and the acessory kit thing which has the rotor slice, grinder and strainer. I made a potato bake for 15 people in december and it seriously sliced 20 potatoes in like 2 minutes!! Same with onions for the barbie, quick as! I have only had mine a month but already its become the most used appliance (besides the toaster and kettle) and i use it probably every 2nd day, sometimes twice a day. I got my attachments from amazon dot com for a whole lot cheaper then in australia. I also got a beater blade which scrapes the side of the bowl as it beats and whhhooooooah it makes quick icing :D
My favourite thing i have made since my purchase has got to be Italian Meringue Butter Cream, OMG the most seriously delicous icing in the whole wide world. It took about 30 mins to make but so worth every damn second - i made chocolate flavour and even my dh wnted to lick the bowl and he isnt a sweets fan.
Yesterday i made bread dough but then decided i wanted something more savoury so turned it into cheese, sundried tomato and chive scrolls with a few vegemite ones for ds. Yummo.
I have tried to make pasta yet but its next on my list.
The ice-cream attachment has been requested as a b'day present!
I thought about attachments from Amazon - is postage as frighteningly bad as I suspect it is though?
um no, i think it cost me less than $30 for postage. All up i paid something like $350 incl postage for what would have cost me over $800 in aust. Go shop now while the dollar is good!!!
After a bit of researching (aka avoiding putting the rubbish out), I think that the only attachment we shouldn't buy from the US is the ice cream attachment - because it attaches to stem (err, not official term) of the planetary mixer part. And the Aus/Eur machines have that annoying ring thing to meet safety requirements, and the US machines don't have that. You probably could buy the ice cream attachment from the US and then order the right parts from Aus, but by then the prices might be so close that it might be worth just spending an extra $20 and buying from an Aus retailer.
So I think the motors/voltage and the safety ring might be the only differences between models - so the other attachments should fit. They are made in the US after all, you'd think they'd be the same...
I'm going to join this thread as I've decided that I want a KA for my birthday! I need to know where to nab me a bargain!
Nelle is right in saying that the ice cream attachment from the usa isnt suitable for our model. If it attaches to the hub then it will be suitable.
:leap: Im in!!! I got a black KA for my birthday!!!! It so pretty!
ohhhh a KA thread... I got given on for mothers day, not sure of the proper colour but mine is a deep red almost cranberry in colour. Admittedly I have only used it 3 times, not much of a baker, but I am hoping to use it a lot more this year :D
No it isn't weird MrsB, that's appreciation :)
I was a bit sad when we had to leave him at home this morning when we went out for breakfast so DH drove me past the kitchen shop where he came from so I could look in the window
And upon returning home I gave him a little caress :o but felt better coming in here and reading Im not the only one MrsB26
ha ha ha :D love it!
Its my cleanest appliance too, i'm forever making sure its clean and shiny. I'm about to use Esther (thats her name, cause Esther is the bester) to make a Pavlova.
and i''m not crazy, i know bester isnt a real word but it sounds good lol
Oh! a name! I'll have to think of a name.
What rythmes with Boysenberry?
Joys 'n Merry?
I'm seriously considering one, ladies, but they are $800 at Matchbox!!!! Convince me, ladies, convince me!! So that I can convince DH....
Yeah I wouldn't pay $800...have a bit of a shop around! Mine's called Clive. Not sure why. Green like chives? Nickle, if you have a look at some of the videos on youtube, you can see some of the things you can do with it, and get a better idea of what the attachments do?
Nae, why don't you consider something like the grating attachments? You might use it a bit more that way? Especially in summer with salads and things. And in winter you can do vegies for chips...or anything! It's on my (considerably sized) wish list. Or even the mincer with sausage stuffer attachment, if you like the idea of making your own sausages?
Woot PO5! It wasn't a ps3 after all!
Yep. we got ours from Your Home Depot too, best price I found online :) Tried to get 'House' to match it, but the lady told me that she can't possibley sell it for any less that what she has on it, and tried to explain how expensive they are, and how YHD must be selling it at a loss. I said, I don't care, obiously it's working for them and if it's cheaper somewhere else I'm buying it from there. She was a bit stunned.
MY KA is also the cleanest applicance, I love giving it a rub to shine it up. Used it again to make rissoles, minced my beef, grated my onion and carrot. I only wish it would peel my potatoes and sweet potatoes. Then I might consider marrying it.
ETA: I considered price matching withonline shops, but didn't see the point when I could just buy it at Your Home Depot without the fuss of getting them to match it :) Good reviews from YHD, and they had the attachments I wanted too.
thanks for the tips on where to get it online!!!! Will have to make sure I drop some major hints now, DP went and priced them locally for me as a xmas pressie and they were $800 here too.. and he decided far to $$ but I think if its at the $650 mark I can work on him :)
His name shall be Keith...dont ask me why it just came to me and I thought he was a boy as soon as I saw him :)
Ive been browsing and I think my first attachment will be the grater/slicer thingy. Im spewing I cant test him out today but there is not enough room in the kitchen for more food as we are having a party tonight but look out tomorrow Im planning a hangover cook off
Po5 I've got my eye on the slicer attachment as well. They are some great bargains on Amazon including the cover
I'm slinking in. we used KA at tafe and i fell in love with them. but sadly a) our kitchen has very, very little bench space and $$ is tight. but maybe i'll be able to save up for one of thease after we move....
I have very little bench space in my kitchen too sadly, but my KA is pretty much never off the bench.
I feel like I am neglecting my KA by not having any attachments for it yet. Buying some attachments shall be my New Years resolution! :)
We've made pizza dough in mine tonight. So easy! The first thing I need to buy is an extra bowl (or 2) because I am constantly wanting to make different things at the same time.
Waaaaa! In jealous of you all!!
Think I might try hit up the fan to put
money in for one for my 23rd XD
Snap Lisa, i made pizza dough too (after my pav that is ;) )
ok, that post reminded me - i need a failsafe pasta recipe
and a pizza dough one would be awesome too!
pleeeeeeeeeease!
BG - This is our pizza dough recipe. We have been using this recipe for almost 10 years.
:
Lisa's Family Pizza Dough
Step 1
1 ½ cups warm water
1 packet (7g) dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
Step 2
1 ½ teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
Step 3
4 cups plain flour
Step 1
Pour the warm water in a large mixing bowl.
Add the sugar and yeast.
Stir the mixture until dissolved.
Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to let the yeast mature (it will go a sludgy colour and have some bubbles)
Step 2
Add the salt and then the olive oil. Stir again to combine the ingredients.
Step 3
(We did this step in the KA)
Add in flour 1 cup at a time. By the 3rd or so cup the dough mix should be fairly thick.
Add the last cup and flour and, with your hands, begin to combine and knead the dough.
You may need to add a dusting of flour from time to time to reduce the stickiness of the dough.
When making pizza dough you’re going to have to knead the dough for between 5-8 minutes on the benchtop.
You'll know the dough is ready when the ball no longer sticks to your hands.
It will become a smooth, slightly bigger than a grapefruit.
Coat the dough ball with a thin layer of olive oil, and place it in the bottom of a large mixing bowl which has also been coated on the inside with olive oil.
Cover with foil and set it in a warm place. I usually place it on top of the stove (turned off) and let it get the heat from the oven that is heating to cook the pizza. It takes about an hour or so to rise, sometimes longer depending on how hot or cold it is. It will be ready when it’s twice the size you started with.
When it is ready, take the dough and roll it out into the sizes you want.
You can add Italian herbs to the mix, or garlic. You can make the base a little bigger than your trays and cut some thin fingers of mozzarella to lay around the edge, then fold over the extra dough and you have yourself a stuffed crust pizza.
I wanna join in too! I don't have one but since the holiday we planned for my 30th has been abandoned (starting new job), I plan to hit DH up for a KA!!!! So, tell me what I can make with one? What do I "need"? Where do I get it all? How much monday should I hit DH up for?
MG- Peter's of Kensington is the cheapest in Oz, but you know David Jones price matches? ;)
As I have most of the attachments, I'll say the ones that live in the kitchen and the ones that live in the shed. Inside I have the mincer and the rotor slicer shredder. I also have the "new" pasta press attachment inside.... outside I have the pasta rollers, ice cream, mill... ( I haven't paid for them, they are for work).
For my pasta it depends on what attachment I use, the pasta press needs to use a drier dough and the rollers need to use oil. Basically, its plain flour, egg and olive oil for the rollers. I start with the flour and egg and add olive oil until it is the right consistency.
I have the empire Red K5 (the semi commercial model) that I bought myself, but then for work I have an almond KSM150 (or the normal style stand mixer).
