re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Guessing I'll have company soon. ;) Not much to report, sleeps, bfs and poos - a lot! Milk coming in today, so thankful for toddler who's easing engorgement. Easy baby, but she doesn't have much choice! Plus, I'm comparing her to an attitude-filled seven year old and tornado toddler. Guess our standards adjust themselves!

re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hmm... Shall I join here? Would like to stay with my belly buddies! She was only 45 mins early, lol.

re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Jennifer she is gorgeous!

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Looking forward to some company very soon... ;)

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
How's it all going with you Jen?
Engorgement has settled down here thank God. So far DD3 is a dream, just eating and sleeping! I can't get enough of her. Forgot how gorgeous newborns were. Midwife appt today and she's 90g above her birth weight on day 9 so all good. Want to get a present for my midwife, any ideas for me?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
M/w pressies, I have to do the same. And I have an extra this time, who came on very short notice as she was closest. I got my m/ws 'Keep Calm and Call the Midwife' mugs last time. Not sure this time. I've known them for 2 1/2 years now so I'll probably get them something I know they'll specifically like.
DD3 likes sleeping at night. I'm totally in love with her too. Engorgement settled after two days but I got a blocked duct last night that isn't fun. Thank goodness for still bfing a toddler because she shifted it when she bf this morning. Just taking anti-inflammatory to make sure it's gone.
She had put on 90g from birth weight at her one week appt too.
How are you doing with juggling three? DP is back at work now and I'm starting to feel like I'm managing pretty well. Even the washing is being done! I could do with an extra pair of hands to wrangle baby + toddler and an extra dose of patience to deal with DD1. ;)

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi all,
I wasn't a January belly buddy, I was due December 21! But baby girl A took her time and was finally born 9 January after prostin gels, a nice fast hospital water birth. We're home and doing well. I am probably going to be in both December and January threads for a little bit, if people don't mind?

Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
The more the merrier I say :) congrats on your little girls birth, that must have been a long couple of weeks :)
Heaven - May be silly but what about a cute personalised badge or a pen?
Jen - I hear you on the tolerance for the other kids. Both of mine are a bit haywire! Love their brother but surely are pushing my buttons. DH has taken them out swimming on our lovely 40+ degree day but here I am making a cheesecake as DH, lovely guy but not particularly clever, decided to invite a bunch of friends and their kids over tomorrow afternoon! He goes back to work the next day. Ho Hum and really CBF! Luckily for him I got over my uti quickly after choofing myself off to the doctor at the first sign of it.
Other than that..... Alls well here DS2 loves sleeping during the day more than the night here. Must sort that one out!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
It was very very tiring. Hard on my older child with not having any energy and all the naps I needed to take to get through the day!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
*sneaks in* glad bubbas and boobs are settleing and yules your uti has eased!
*sneaks out*

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Welcome Liminal! Sounds like your LO really made you wait but all went well in the end.
So far I seem to have gotten the baby I ordered - likes sleeping, esp at night, feeds easily and quickly, isn't chucky, hasn't hated the car (although she's only done ten min stretches, so that one's up for grabs)... Hates nappy changes, bath times and lying on her back. Those things we can work around. ;)
DD2 adores her. DD1 is happy to cuddle her but is more interested in her iPad mini. Takes photos of her with the iPad a fair bit though.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi girls
I guess I can stay here given my EDD was Jan?!
Hello Liminal! Nice to "meet" you!
Very much agree re needing a dose of PATIENCE to deal with older siblings. DD1 is pushing buttons. I know it is only an attention thing given she was on her own for 3.5yrs, but boy, my temper is short at the best of times........
DH doesn't go back to work for another 2 or 3 weeks. I would really love to just be able to get the routine sorted & settled for ourselves. He tries to help, but,....you know what I'm saying.
Have any of the CS mum's driven prior to the 6 weeks? I *naughtily* have been. I was just so utterly bored stupid & things like wanting to go to the shops, well I know DH hates anything like a shop, so didn't want to ask him to take me, but really wanted to go. The GP said she doesn't mind me driving but I won't be insured till the 6 weeks.
Anyway, hoping the feed / sleep patterns are settling. I know ours are around 4hrs at 9, 1 & 5 which works really well & will work with daycare / work starts too. Take care.

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Peta, after DD1's c/s I only waited two and a half weeks to drive (as soon as my Mum left). My ob told me as soon as I could do an emergency brake without pain or hesitation I was fine. Frankly, I was less of a hazard than my Mum! I checked with my ins company and they said it was whatever my dr advised. I practiced emergency braking in the driveway to check. Glad to hear you're doing so well.
Have a lot more patience today - DD1 went to a friend's for the day. ;)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi girls, just checking in for a quick hello. Thank goodness for phones and having friends at your fingertips while feeding!
Peta - my friend who had a c/s had to drive, but same thing, as long as it wasn't straining or pulling while doing it she did. When there's other kids around you kind of just have to sometimes

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Ok, so my December baby buddies are all on FB and no one seems to be able to figure out how to add me...plus I'd prefer to stay with my belly buddies....so, can I hang out here? ;)
DS has been unsettled the past couple of days. He loves to fight sleep in the mornings and can be awake and grizzly for three hours plus...he seems to know that's the time I need to be around to feed and dress DS (and will be getting him ready for kindy in a couple of weeks), and eat and get dressed myself, lol! He'll pass out in the afternoon for a good couple of hours, but only if he's on me and I a) am sitting or b) am walking while baby wearing. So, I'm stuck either way! It would've bothered me big time with DS1, but it's only mildly inconvenient this time around (sorry DH, didn't do ANY housework at all again today ;))
PETA - Same as what Jen said about the driving and CS. I waited 6 weeks with DS, but wasn't ready even then. Was ok by 8 weeks.

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
If you don't stay I'd be sad Jleigh! We have a fb group too if you want to join it. Pm me your details and I'll add you there if you like. But do stick with us :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Agreed, jleigh stay with us!
We are finally home, got discharged yesterday.
Ds2 ended up needing to go under lights for jaundice on our last afternoon / night in hospital but thankfully was right to be discharged yesterday.
We need to keep an eye on him, as he isn't feeding well ( we are bottle feeding) and we need to wake him for feeds.
If he continues to not feed, we have to go back to special care.
That combined with me needing to wake him, I'm stressing myself out and haven't been able to sleep which isn't good.
Think my hormones are also in overdrive, I have done nothing but cry all morning!!
Thank goodness DS1 is at daycare today, and DH is home.
Hope everyone is surviving the heat - Sydney isn't too bad, but we have the air con pumping.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Oh Sah :( glad you're home at last but sorry Bub is giving you cause to stress. Glad the jaundice was shortlived. Hopefully the feeding will come too - DS had to be woken for feeds at first too. I'm sure he'll get the hang of it soon. I had a meltdown last weekend too and actually DH he is never to complain about being tired, or have a nana nap, ever again! It's an emotional time anyway, before you add our hormones in, so you're allowed to cry x
Yules - will PM you about the FB group, but no one ever seems to be able to add me....the requests all say they've gone thru, but I don't get them. And if you look me up by name on FB, I'm not there! Weird...
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi Girls
Sah, sorry to hear DS2 isn't feeding well. Hopefully it will come now you are home & in a more relaxed place. Also he could be sensing your stress. Try to stay calm & know that he will do the right thing.
Jleigh, love to see you on FB! All the girls I did pregnant yoga with are on there constantly with a multitude of questions. Majority of them are first time mum's so they question every little thing. But nice to know everyone's looking out for each other.
Dansta, yay for an end date! That's only 2 weeks away now. :-) Hope you are getting 'used to" the heat, or coming up with more ideas to cope.
Liminal & Jen, hello!
Well, I spent the day working in clients offices with Em today. I have a sore tummy again from driving too much - think it is the manual that does it as its mostly on the left from the clutch. Some of my clients are expecting a hell of a lot from me & I came home so angry & went nuts at DH. I yelled at him for other things, but I think it was mostly my anger about these clients behind it. It looks like our pram is slightly broken due to DH forcing it closed in a way it doesn't fold. Still mostly works, but is a pain in the butt to try to pull the seat / bassinet bit off in order to fold up. Anyway, best get to bed & have some sleep. Em has been feeding more at night since the days have been so hot. xo
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Peta - That's just so wrong that you've got clients 'at' you when you have a newborn :(
Our pram with DS1 was a 2 piece one where the seat came off - loved it at the time as I am a weakling and after the CS I couldn't lift anything, but this time around we got a one piece and it fits in the boot much better.
AFM - Looks like DS has silent reflux :( Have managed to get into the paed on Saturday arvo so hopefully we can get on top of it quickly. Poor DS screamed most of the day then fell asleep about 5pm out of sheer exhaustion - 2x 15 min naps just aren't enough for a 3week old (or his mum, lol!)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Sounds like all the bubs are adjusting to life on the outside. Little C is a bit of a guts and gives herself a tummy ache after cluster feeding (guzzling). I can see her getting bigger and she's out of her 5x0s now.
Sah - glad to see you're home and hope you settle into your new routine. Hope DS2's jaundice is resolved and he starts eating better. Jaundice can make them sleepy, which is probably why he's not eating as well. He'll wake up soon enough. ;) Does your DH have much time off?
Peta - it's tough to juggle your own work with a new baby. Do you have much help (at home at least)? Thankfully, my work is quiet over Jan, but I'm going to start logging on for emails and some reading over the weekend.
Hi to everyone else!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Finally have some time to reply now!
Jen- the mug is a good idea thanks! I have also got my birth photos back now and there's some nice ones of me and my midwife so might give her one of those! I am going well with 3 but my DH has all of Jan off so it's easy at the moment! Have had a lot of visitors though and was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Just kind of looking forward to being just us and getting back to our normal routine. All gone now though so I'm enjoying it :)
Liminal- :hello: Welcome!
Peta- I had a c/s with DD1 and don't think I drove before 6 week. I felt like I could though! It was just the insurance thing stopping me.
Yules-
JLeigh- yes, definitely stay with us!! Bugger about the reflux, I have been lucky to avoid that with my girls, it must be really tough xx
sahbear- big  Hope you're feeling better. I got the blues worst with DD1 and it was an awful feeling. Only had a touch of it this time.
AFM, doing well here. Still have DH home and visitors are gone so just relaxing into our new family life! I'm actually home alone with DD3 today which is nice. Although all she's doing is sleeping! It seems I have finally got the recipe right and I have the easiest baby ever. Sleeps a lot and actually in her bassinet and not only on me, hardly cries, likes the car. SO different from the other two. I think it's probably just that I'm more relaxed TBH though. I don't really have time to be worrying about sleep and forcing her to sleep. So she just sleeps when she's tired, and easily, phew! I hope she stays that way because I have all 3 at home 24/7 and it would make it a lot easier, haha, not holding my breath though after the other two!

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
So would it be bad that DS2 is out the front on my porch in the fresh air sleeping while I'm here on the computer! (don't worry I'm right next to the front door! LOL) Just catching up quickly and paying some bills.
DS1 and DD are watching a movie after being at the park from 9:30 till 2:30. DS2 slept the whole time, apart from when I had to kind of wake him for a feed before my boobs exploded! So Heaven, I know what you mean!
Sah - I'm sorry things have been a little rough. The M/W also told me that a bit of jaundice can make them sleepy, so maybe you're just a little bit stuck in that one thing makes them sleepy, and therefore not feed, but I'm sure you'll get your groove soon. Things just need to settle after the big deal of giving birth.
JLeigh - Not sure if you've checked FB yet but I found you! Go check it out. Promise I'm not some weird stalker ;)
Jen - I hear you on the guzzling/cluster feeding. DS2 always wants to do that right when I'm ready for bed and then cries for a while after…. :( Can't believe your DD was in 5-0's….she would have been itty bitty!
Peta - Your clients need to chill out! Please take it easy. The last thing you need is an infection in your wound or to be stressed out by your work. It's not worth it girl and you should tell them so! (geez I'm so tough!)
Anyway, will go now and check in later xx
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yules - accepted you on FB! Yay!
Sah - How are you doing now?
Jen - DS2 was teensy in his 0000's when we brought him home (00000's would've fit), but he's filled out too and doesn't look like he's wearing a tent anymore!
Heaven - I'm a bit jealous ;) DS2 was so easy going for the first week or so, but now with the reflux he's having a tough time. Day sleeps are 95% on me (after fighting it for a good while), BFing is a bit off (he pulls off more and more as feeding causes reflux and gives him pain :() and the screaming episodes aren't pretty to watch. He's had oral thrush and now has eczema... Bring on the paed tomorrow... On a good note, he's getting better at taking the dummy and it really helps his pain :)
Hi everyone else I've forgotten ;)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Thanks girls! It's nice to have somewhere to blurt it out.
The jaundice and his size definitely have something to do with it.
We actually ended up back in hospital for the night last night, but back out today. DS2 had barely fed since we got home, was lethargic and hardly any wet nappies. We were on strict instructions to call if that happened, which DH made me do last night after stressing myself out about it all day.
We went in they kept him for the night to run some more tests and watch him, and we were discharged at lunchtime but need to go back on Monday for a further check.
The nurses and the SCN paed we are seeing have been amazingly supportive and helpful.
Other than that, all is ok I think. We went out to the shops this arvo as I had cabin fever after being in hospital for way too long, picked up a couple more 5x0 outfits for B, hopefully he will fit them soon - they are still too big! ( I'm sure that will change way too fast!)
Jleigh - poor DS and you on the reflux. Hope it gets sorted soon for you both, nothing worse than hearing them be in pain.
Jen, I can't believe C is out of 5x0 already! Hope she slows her guzzling down.
DH is off for a month or so, thank goodness - I'm needing the help with DS1, don't think I could do both on my own just yet.
Heaven - yay got DD3 making it a nice transition for you.
Makes it so much easier and pleasant when they are chilled out.
Yules - glad DS2 is making it easy for you as well. Sounds lovely being out on the porch as well as a good play at the park for the big ones!
Peta, you poor thing :( I don't think I could do anything work related that soon after having a bub. You are amazing!
Hi everyone else! I'm sure I have forgotten someone, trying to remember off my phone!
Will be back to check in soon :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Selfish post here...
Having a tough time with DS' silent reflux. The paed was awesome, agreed straight out that it's silent reflux and put him on Losec. He's definitely been in less pain (no more hysterical cries for hours) but we're still working on it...inclining the bed, getting him to sleep, getting him to take a dummy (sucking helps) and sorting feeds (he pulls off as feeding is painful.
Sah - poor you :( Poor DS :( it's no wonder you're worried. Hope you get answers soon. If it helps, I've seen 6x0's in Target before...not for awhile but I don't exactly look!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Oh Jleigh that sounds rough. Did your ds1 have reflux too? Big hugs and hope it all settles down soon and you can get on with things. Is your DS1 starting kindy soon? How has he been? Do you still have DH around helping you?
I'm feeling tired today, DS only up twice but last feed was at 4ish and dd came in at 5:50am,...my eyes keep closing! I'm looking forward to school holidays finishing so I can find my groove a bit better.
How is everyone else going??
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yules - mum's here til We'd, DH is back at work. No, DS1 didn't have reflux, so this is all new to me. Can't wait for DS1 to start kindy, not to get rid of him, but to try to get into a routine. DS1 fed at 12:30 and 3:45, but only catnapped restlessly after the second feed, so we've been up since 5:40 (DH did 4:30-5:30 for me)...DS1 wandered out at 6am. Feeds take 1.5hrs so that's not much sleep.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
We were up at the same times! Dd came in at 6am too. Glad your mum is still around and hopefully the losec will work its magic so when she goes it will be a little easier on you.
I'm looking forward to my two big kids going back to school, like you, not to get rid of them but so I can establish a good routine. I'm a bit of a control freak I guess! Plus they're bored now and at each other. DS loves school and wants to go back too. Yesterday we labelled his stationery and he did 'work' in an activity book using his new pencils!
Have you been getting out much with new babies everyone?? And are your chn giving you a mothers group?? I asked to go in one more so DS2 has friends from an early age.... And so I can talk to others. I love talking lol!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yules - lol, we were channelling each other! I forgot to say, DS1 never had reflux, so it's all new to me. I am the original control freak, so I get you on that too. I have made a weekly chart for housework and activities, but hate that I can't finish it because I don't know when DS1's health apps will be, so can't join a mothers group etc Because DS is demand feeding, that's taking some getting used to as well!
I really want to join a mother's group too, but need it to fit around DS1's kindy and other appts. DS2 finds the car really uncomfy (as he's not straight) and the pram too (as he's too flat), so we're not going out much at all - too hot atm anyway ;)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
I'm demand feeding too and ds2 sleeps well but wakes if he has a poop or a burp stuck so if that happens it makes my 'plans' go all out of whack. Today while he was sleeping (before poopy wake up) I made the other twos lunch so I don't have to do it later! Now DS is asleep on me so I'm a bit stuck!
I'll still go to mg just because I find them really good for me. I know mine happens on a Tuesday and both DS and dd will be at school those days so I'll be free!
What are your DS kindy days like? Dd does 5 day fortnight regular school hours. Can't wait!
Alright gotta go put this little guy down.... And get dressed!
-
Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Just a quick one for JLeigh - have you thought about a ring sling or wrap/carrier so you can wear DS2 upright? I use a carry called heart to heart with our ring sling - here's a pic. (DD3 doesn't like lying flat post-feed).

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
hi girls
wow busy posts!
sahbear I'm not amazing for working, more stupid! I just cant help myself saying yes to requests.
re getting out and about, yep plenty, but ive only done a few solo trips with both girls. thankfully alyssa loves looking after emily so has been very good waiting where I ask while we load/unload the car. groceries with both were not the best. I had em in baby bjorn and alyssa walked, but she was all over the aisle and then pushing the trolley in front/under me which doesnt make steerimg easy when youre short like me.
emily seems to have issues with wind a bit but hoping it settles as she gets bigger.
with mothers group, the yoga girls have started one each Monday, which ive hardly gotten to yet, but we also chat on fb all the time. I have to say though I'm not sure I'm mg material as I find some of the disvussions boring and would rather talk adult stuff than kid, but majority of them are first time mums so that , could be part of it.
anyways hoping you are all getting enough sleep and like you I'm looking forward to getting my groove. alyssa back at kindy already but dh doesnt go back to work for another week or so...... speak soon xo
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Jen - is that you??? I have a Boba wrap and a Hana wrap, both of which Bub loves! Both are a bit hot, so I can only wear in the air con and even then Bub gets hot after awhile. I was looking at a woven wrap, but I'm still a BW newbie and not overly confident. Plus they're $$$. I did see the Caboo NCT, which looks good, but will have to see my Boba. Not keen on ring slings as I have a bad back sometimes and worry about it aggravating that because it's one shoulder only.
Spent the day holding or wearing DS2. He had two five minute sessions on the floor and I spent one half making DS1's lunch...not sure what I'll do when mum leaves on Wed...even getting a drink is hard atm. :( MCHN appt tomorrow morning...
Yules - DS1 has a 2.5 day week at kindy. Wish it was a 5 day fortnight, but that's ok.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi my lovely ladies!!
Thought I'd pop in here :)
Should be going home tomorrow, so then I get to juggle 2 kids like the rest of you. I think my milk is about to come in. My nipples are sore but still pushing through, hopefully her attachment will keep getting better.
Had a little scare last night, she vomited up quite a bit in her bed but didn't get it all out and started choking. Had to call the nurse and she helped clear the airways. Horrible!
Hopefully I will catch up on where you are all at soon
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
