Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Thanks!
Trying to work out this breastfeeding business. She doesn't want to open her mouth wide enough.
And having ginormous boobies sure doesn't help either. Soo many things to juggle.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Juggling boobies Raupe... Nice mental picture :) get a LC if you need one. They are brilliant.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I feel your pain Raupe.....literally! I went from an 18dd to a 20g when pregnant & now none of my nursing bras fit :(
David doesn't open his mouth wide enough either unless he's screaming for a feed & now that I'm all swollen & full it's even worse. If possible, try leaving your bra/shirt off to get comfy feeding first & then juggle clips etc. also, feeding "football hold" style is easier for me if you wanna give that a try. Ooh, and propping bubs on a pillow.
I had a freak out the other night thinking I wouldn't be able to feed because I was sore & swollen but thinking back, I had the same issues with ds1 & dd.
Tegam, my LC at the hospital was useless! She comes in goes "you've done this before, you'll be fine" and walked out again. Thankfully I have an ABA group close by that I contacted yesterday & I have the ABA number stuck on my fridge & bedside table.

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I've also got bf issues, I thought we were doing really well but poor Lachlan isn't getting enough milk and has lost around 15% of birth weight :( midwife said today he needs formula and they will come back tomorrow to weigh again. It explains why he is frantic at the boob and constantly feeding. He is so much happier after a bottle so now I want to work out how to increase my supply. Any recipes for lactation cookies or other advice?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Eivie google weight loss and CS! CS babies weights are artificially high because of the surgery. Please stick with it!

Babies Born ~ September 2014
David had his hearing screen today. Passed :)
I have a baby who hates bath time :( hope the warmer weather in the next few weeks means he will start to enjoy it.
Eivie, I'd try & stick with it too hun. But at the end of the day if it doesn't work for you then ff'ing is not the end of the world. The main thing is that bubby is happy & healthy & mum is not stressed.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Hey lovelies! How are you all going?
Eivie, sorry about the weight issues. I have made a few batches of lactation cookies and find them really helpful (even if it's just to satisfy the munchies during night feeds). It's day 4 today and thanks to the cookies my milk has definitely come in big time! (Ouch!) I see if I can find the recipe, then I'll postb it for you. Just make sure you use real brewers yeast, not bakers yeast!! I'll get back to you soon.
AFM, sore nipples. She still struggles to latch properly. We're getting there, but it's not easy. Also, my bits are hurting! Not sure if it's the stiches or just general soreness from the obvious . Anyone else got the same issue? What do you do?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
The sore nipples goes away Raupe. My left is completely healed & my right is not far away :)
As for sore bits, yep, here too! I have a perennial graze, labial grazes & a small labial laceration but didn't need stitches. It still stings a bit to pee & sitting is difficult unless I have a lot of padding under me. My couch has become my best friend. Lol
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Hi girls, about time I get in here.
Raupe-Re sore bits, get yourself a 'pump' water bottle, mix water, lavender oil and tea tree oil and pour over your bits every time you go to the toilet. Helps a lot!!
Hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying their little people!
Afm-we are doing well, boobs are starting to settle, I had a small graze which has healed now. I ended up with a small tear which I didn't get stitches for just using the....be back to finish soon crying baby
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
My little guy is not a boobie fan :( he screamed last night when I tried to feed him. We were both in tears & after 25 minutes of screaming, fussing & crying I ended up expressing while DF put him in the bath. He settled after his feed & was perfectly content so I think he's going to be an express fed bub from now on.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Hi ladies, hope everyone is doing well. Kalina I'm sorry to hear that, how disappointing. Have you spoken to a mw or lc about it?
AFM it seems our big problem was that my milk hadn't come in yet. I thought it had but it was just a bigger supply of colostrum. I can feel it coming in now, boobs get hard and sore but it's still colostrum at the beginning of the session. We're on a routine of feeding 3 hourly starting with breast then expressed milk followed by formula. It's exhausting! DH banished me to the bed last night and said I wasn't allowed to get up for at least 6 hours lol. I cried when I closed the door and was asleep within 1 min. I've been having microsleeps which is really dangerous when I'm standing and holding the baby as my whole body lurches forward. The midwife has ordered DH to make sure I sleep. It breaks my heart skipping the breast part of the feeding schedule though. I really hope my milk supply increases quickly, I'm taking a large dose of my placenta pills which really seems to be helping.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I spoke to my mw about it today. She came out to do a quick home visit & assess how things were. I tried a feed while she was here & she said I was doing everything fine but he still didn't want to latch. She just reassured me that it doesn't matter how he's fed as long as he's healthy & she saw that I was stressing about getting him to feed. Her words to me when she saw the disappointment on my face were "you recognised he was having trouble, you fed him the best way you thought how & he's calm. He's not starving. Give yourself a pay on the back, breastfeeding is not for everyone. Stop stressing and enjoy your baby." I think I cried at that. Lol

Hope everything is ok Kalina.
How is everyone else doing? I cant believe DD (oh first time I've called her DD!!) is two weeks on Tuesday. I'm obsessed with her :heartbeat: but man am I tired. I forgot what its like....

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
He has viral meningitis :( we brought him up on Thursday night with a fever of 38.7
He's doing better today but we have to be here until at least tomorrow afternoon & that's only if his temp stays under 38. He was taken off the antibiotics this morning.
He had to have a spinal at 2 Friday morning & I couldn't be there when they did it. His blood test cries were heartbreaking enough.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh KAlina, We often suggest that parents aren't there for that! There is no need to put you through that and its nice for you to be the reward cuddle at the end. Poor little man. i hope his temp stays down. Wonder where he picked that up from. Hope the staff are all being nice to you xx
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I hope his temp stays down, what a difficult time for you :(
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Thank you ladies. Tegam, he has enterovirus. His paed said that is what has caused him to end up with meningitis. Apparently it could have been as simple as me passing on the bug I had when I have birth or he may have picked it up anywhere. We are very glad that we jumped on it so quickly & the temp has been his only symptom.
I've only had one crabby nurse so far & she wasn't even David's nurse, just some random nurse that came to fix up David's IV last night & commented in how much "junk" I had brought from home. I have my favourite nurse back this afternoon (yay)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Yay for nice nurses. You will tend to get the same nurses as they know the babies history :)

Subbing... wriggly toddler preventing further typing... back soon!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh Kalina, I hope David is well on the mend and he can come home tomorrow. I can't imagine how scary that would have been for you!
We've been okay. Took me long enough to find this thread! I wish I'd found it sooner, it would have been reassuring hearing of all your BF starting stories. My milk came in yesterday and my nipples were burning like razors cutting them. I was completely engorged despite Zen feeding every 2-3 hours (although I know the more they feed the more you make) and I came over all feverish and flu like. My mw was concerned I had an infection or mastitis but overnight things improved.
I'm getting used to the lack of sleep as one wise mother told me when I had DS1 you don't catch up sleep you just get used to not having it. I'm even pool with being up for hours in the middle of the night. DP say my bedroom up with an armchair to feed (can't sit up in bed due to birth injuries) and I have a tv and hard drive to distract myself and a heater. Not bad.
Physically that labor really screwed with me. My left hips is screwed, during the second stage I felt like my leg was going to fall off from the hip, it hurt more than pushing! So now I can't lay down without pain and is worse first thing in the morning. But chiro next week should help. I tore in the same spot as last time only tore a little more so have stitches. And a lovely giant hemorrhoid which feels like the size of a tennis ball lol. but that's about it.
I feel slow to recover this time around but I've got nothing more to do than be a mum and I'm cool with that.
Zen is very different to DS1, he is a lot more chilled and settled. Feeding has been quicker and more successful this time around which is a relief.
Baby Blues hit yesterday big time. I'm trying my hardest not to absolutely hate DP most of the time (he thinks now is the best time to paint or new deck rather than be with DS1 so I can rest) but I have loads of family support so that makes up for it.
Anyways, rambling now! Hope you are all well!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Welcome to the new thread Phyrephly! I'm sorry to hear about your hip, it sounds painful...
Zen sounds like he's living up to his name, hopefully he continues to be a relaxed peaceful baby :)

Babies Born ~ September 2014
They've just found E. coli in his urine screen & they want to do an ultrasound & more bloods tomorrow to check his kidneys. They are also starting him back on oral antibiotics. How can my baby be so sick & yet seem so healthy?! I want to wrap him up, take him home & never leave the house again :(
Sorry, I've been ignoring everyone else's posts.
Eta they also think he has oral thrush as he's got a couple of little white spots on the roof of his mouth.
