Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I always said after my first that b/feeding was my greatest achievement, in life!
My nipples are killing me already, which is completely normal for me and I know what comes after my pain and a lot of patience, an abundance of milk.
Maya is really spewy with mucus, in my pregnant haze I remember reading quite a few babies were mucus spewy? I don't remember this with DS1 and 2 but MW (and google at 4am!) said it was normal, good in fact that she was getting it out.
Other than that I am head over heels in love! I have my first daughter and my DSD has a sister!
Feeding time...

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh my goodness Kellbell congrats on your little girl. When I saw this update I realised I must have missed a heap of posts somewhere xx sorry to hear she is unwell and I hope you can bring her home real soon xx
Jessica- baby maya is beautiful xx I love the hair =)
Wow this week has gone quickly! Midwife visits finished now as bubs has put on weight and my BP was finally at a normal level. She is such a placid little baby and LOVES her baths! Which is good. Seems strange but I have always wondered how id cope if my child didn't like baths (came from watching a friend who's daughter hated them)!
Anyways just thought I'd share that random fact =P

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Stubborn wind please go away we need sleep and you are really annoying us! Go away and let my baby sleep!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I just went for a huge walk to the bmx park, played a game of footy, a game of basket ball and walked back and you know what, not one bloody BH, nothing :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Williever I am the same with Zen. I hope its just wind :( He can feed fine when sleeping, but when he wakes up fully he feds for a few minutes then pulls off screaming. He has been so unsettled these past two days. I have started eliminating foods in hope that I find something that fixes it. My mW has suggested block feeding so he gets the full fat milk, so I am doing that today. Fingers crossed it works! I am drinking the tea that helps with wind/colic/reflux with varied success. Sigh. It's s o triggering to when DS1 was born, he screamed non stop for months and months regardless of what I did. I was hoping DS2 would be different! At least he sleep on his own, DS1 had to be attached to me to sleep. I dont want to be Debbie Downer, just had a *meh* few days...
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Yeah we're having stubborn wind issues here too. Turns him into what dh calls 'angry wombat' at least a couple of hours each day. Last night it was the final quarter of the Hawthorn v Port Adelaide game and we are Hawks supporters - made it very tense at the end when we almost lost!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Williever I thought you meant the wind (weather) outside was keeping you all up lol. Hope you and bubby managed some sleep.
Jessica I'm so happy you have a girl, I know it was what you were hoping for and little girls are just divine! The early phases of bf is so painful but it will be worth it. Is your little girl feeding well? Are you home yet?
Kellbell glad your little one is stable, must be a hard thing to see. Are you travelling back and forth a lot visiting and feeding her? We barely need 0000 too, lucky I didn't buy too many!
Wannabubby glad the weight and your bp are all good, and lol about the bath! It does make a big difference weather they like or hate things like that though!
Phy you must be so tired... hope you can make your little man more settled and less windy soon. It's great you know some things to try to reduce it.
Eivie same with you and your bubs. Wow wind is such an issue poor little bubbas!
Tegam wow I'm impressed at your efforts! I just wanted to sit or sleep during those last weeks... fx something happens soon!
Well my milk has come in yay, last night woke to rock hard sore and leaky boobs. Ds just doesn't want boob at night, will only give some half hearted sucks so he was no help in relieving me. Lucky this morning he had a good feed :) But he still guzzles the formula too so I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to keep expressing and getting engorged breasts, but it seems I still don't produce enough? Might give aba helpline a call! He also has a lot of wind, particularly at night.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Funny that many of you are not using 0000 where's as based upon DS I bought 000 and up. Penny is a tiny frame (average weight) and I am sending DH out this PM to get 0000 and below! Last night was freezing and I was layering her with huge clothes. Lol.
Cattie- we might be in the same position? I am trying to get more milk and topping up with formula. It's the formula giving her so much wind. She prefers the breast milk so that's good, but due to being engorged my levels dropped and now I'm fighting to get it back up. I have been icing them after each attempt and massaging using Olive oil. I have to say it is working as the swelling has gone down. So I'll keep at it. DS was formula feed so I have no problem with doing that again, but I'm having surprising feelings knowing that she's getting my milk. And the fact she loves it also makes me smile.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Williever how did dh go with the 0000 mission? My dh had to run out and buy some clothes too cos we had a boy! It does sound like we're experiencing similar bf issues, hard to know what to do! Sounds like you're on your way to success though, but it's great you're ok with formula. I'm ok with it too but lazy - if I can avoid the washing and sterilising, and bringing the stuff when we go out, that would be great!
I know we've discussed before but is anyone interested in doing a fb page now? I feel a lot more comfortable sharing photos and names there, and would love to know you guys a bit more personally. Maybe we could do one for those on fb for easier photos but keep the main chatter to here?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I could do a FB page, i am happy to go wth the main consensus!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Guys how quickly can mastitis appear? I feel shocking! I have to see a dentist this week as a tooth has split. Could be that, but wondering about my left breast which until today was producing nothing although filled with milk.
I am so sad and just keep crying. Why can't I just enjoy this time and not be sick?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
So I'm not super chatty at the moment because I don't have much to add on the BF side of conversation.
Williever- a cousin of mine developed mastitis within a week or two of giving birth.
I'm happy to do a FB group too if others are xx
Little miss is running like clockwork, trying to enjoy it because I feel like it is too good to be true and it's all gonna go to poop! First time mum worries lol xx
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I'm happy to share pics in a Facebook group :-)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Williever how are you feeling today? If you're feeling flu-ey it really might be mastisis. Won't hurt to see the gp and maybe get antibiotics... it sucks that you're feeling unwell at this time :(
wannabubby so glad things are going well!
Cool, maybe we can start a fb group and whoever likes can join? And we can chat here too so no one is left out! I haven't started a group before, anyone know how to do it? Otherwise I will try figure it out when I'm on a pc :)
Afm - we're at ds' newborn shoot now! Never was organised enough to do one for dd and wished I did, so booked this one in awhile ago. Felt like quite an achievement getting the whole family packed up and here! My boobs are feeling better but now I have huge sore lumps on my underarms which dr google says is still blocked ducts from bf...
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Well I have an irrational fear and hatred of Facebook but this group is really important to me so I would be prepared to get over it if everyone else wants to do the fb thing...
We discovered one of the downsides to bottle feeding this morning. DH forgot he was boiling them last night and they boiled dry and melted! Luckily I've been breastfeeding every chance I get and was able to keep bub going until the shops opened ;)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Sorry Eivie but that gave me a really good laugh!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I got a microwave sterilizer today ;)
Lachlan has put on 445g in a week! The mchn said we are good to start weaning him off the formula during the day and see how he goes. DH got some brewers yeast today so I'm finally gonna make me some lactation cookies to give my boobies a helping hand. Wish me luck!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Eivie lol about the bottles! Great about the weight gain yay! Hope day weaning goes well, will make life easier for you to just do the bf.
-
Babies Born ~ September 2014
I'm baaaaack. Been MIA with a clingy baby! David has been stuck to me since coming home from hospital but last night he slept 2 hours in his bassinet for the first time in a week. As much as I love him being close in the carrier, my back needs a break. I've pinched a nerve in my back & it kills with the carrier on at the moment.
I'll read through all the posts later but right now I'm going to make myself a coffee & drink it while it's HOT!!! Wish me luck. Lol
Eta I'm happy to do FB & this group.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Eivie- your fb post is funny, not so much about the bottles xx
We were using glass bottles and the other day when I put a lid on one the rim snapped off in my hand!! Safe to say I demanded a full refund for ALL bottles even without receipts and we had to do a mad dash to the shops and bought plastics. Was so scary to think she could have swallowed glass of I hadn't of noticed, because at first it just seemed like the lid went on crooked but it wasn't till I reopened it I realised it had broken..
And no breast milk for me to fall back on, lucky we had one bottle made up to get her through the last feed before shops opened although I was reluctant =(
I was so settled into her routine during the night that I woke in a panic this morning cos she didn't wake for a feed!! Even though she had made a noise in her sleep which is what woke me I still panicked! But all good she just had a really good nights sleep!! Such a scary feeling though!
GOOD LUCK Kalina with that coffee hope it was amazing xx
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
So scary wannabubby. DF & I tossed up the glass bottles. Kinda glad we went with the plastic ones from the start now though. I'd be paranoid as all buggery after reading your post. Lol at freaking because she didn't wake for her feed. I think we all get a bit spooked if they're quiet for "too long".
My coffee was FANTASTIC! I even got some housework done without having to reach around a carrier. He slept the whole hour & a half in his bassinet, woke for his 11 o'clock feed, had a bum change & cuddles & then I put him down awake but settled & he's gone back to sleep. Ds1 is on school holidays so we are now having one on one time doing some reading.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Wow Wannabubby, how dangerous! Lucky you noticed... I'm with you on the sleep/freak thing, past 2 nights we've gone to bed and not woken up until nearly 7. Mind you he's been an angry wombat until after 1 so it's only 5-6 hours but it's brilliant sleep.
Cattie I feel for you with the clingy baby, how exhausting. I'm glad he is settling today, a good sign he's feeling a bit better. Yay for hot coffee!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Super jealous of hearing about these blocks of sleep. The longest I have managed since zen was born was 3 hours. He is very unsettled, waking hourly, sometimes more, from about 1am onward so I try to nap in the day so I dont get all cranky sleep deprived. I thought I might get a different type of baby after DS1 but it appears DP and I make unsettled babies who scream when awake :(
-
Babies Born ~ September 2014
I have an infection in the uterus. I'm glad it's figured out. They were going to admit me until I cried. Now I have oral antibiotics and have to check in daily. Fingers crossed it works. Can not imagine having to be separated.... :-(
One of those crappy days. Had a tooth pulled out yesterday too. Got to laugh really.
Positives:
I am home with my family.
I love my babies.
My DH is an amazing help.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh Phyrephly, you sound exhausted! I'm sorry to hear bub is so unsettled :( I've been having very little sleep overall too just got really lucky the past 2 nights.
Williever I hope the infection clears up quickly, it sounds awful. Glad to hear your man is looking after you.
AFM the lactation cookies seem to be working which is great! I don't have abundant milk but I do seem to have a lot more than yesterday. Just doing a lot of cluster feeding today which is nice bonding time. He's only had 1 bottle so far...
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Eivie- that's great! Did you use the BB recipe?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Yeah, the basic one. I'm rather impressed!
-
Babies Born ~ September 2014
Kalina- sounds like he is getting used to his bassinet, let's hope it continues and his naps get longer xx
Eivie- she ended up sleeping 7 hours, but I only slept the 6 cos that's when I woke up panicked!! But I will take it, I did a lot of shift work growing up so I learnt to sleep where I drop and I'm happy if I get 4 hours lol.
Phy- sorry to here Zen is so unsettled =( how long did it last with DS1?
Williever- sorry to hear about the infection but glad they found out what's wrong! And super happy for u they let u stay with ur babies xx

Babies Born ~ September 2014
Wow sounds like there are some well sleeping bubs here!
It's interesting reading your posts and being a few days behind. Last week you were all complaining about being hot and sweaty at night and I couldn't relate. But after last night I completely agree! Hot sweaty flushes, especially around my boobs!
We have settled well at home, came home on the day Maya was born given I had no complications and it has been lovely. First few nights we muddled our way through but the last two nights have been a good routine of Maya feeding every 2-3 hrs (exclusively breast milk so I can't expect much more than that), then straight back to sleep in her bed. She loves sleeping on her side and loves sleeping next to a warm heat pack. I have heaps of milk but had to pump twice on each side for what felt like all day for 2 days to get it! Nipples are recovering, although I find it hard to help them as when I use the Lansinoh I find she doesn't latch on as good at the next feed. Fussy Miss!
Williever you poor thing, take care. I LOVE your positive list.
Eivie I am glad the cookies worked for you. Do they taste nice?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Jessica it's great you have settled into a good routine, shame about joining the sweaty mess club though - welcome lol. I'm still waking up sweaty but I sleep on a thick towel and have a change of clothes ready to go so it's not as gross and upsetting now, it's just become part of my new routine.
I made the basic recipe for the cookies with reduced sugar and I like them. They taste healthy so dh hated the one I gave him lol. I want to try with coconut oil instead of butter and maybe some shredded coconut too - yum. I tried the raw dough which is supposed to more potent but it made me feel a bit sick and gave me weird beer burps!
In breaking news I had milk for the overnight feed! I've had trouble even getting a drop overnight until now. Also I have milk from the very first drop now instead of colostrum followed by milk so it seems I spent a long time with transitional milk and after 18 days my milk has finally come in properly! Yay cookies! My next challenge is finding nursing tops that don't drive me mental...
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Wannabubby, DS1 was unsettled at night until he was well over 2 :(
Good on you eivie! Lots of patience and persistence paid off! I hear you on the nursing tops. Thank god its getting warmer, singlets will be my friend. Lucky I dont mind pulling my boob out whetever lol.
I had a visit with my MW yesterday which helped me feel better about managing zen thriugh the witching hour. I have a plan, go for a walk with him in the hug a bub with DS1 then get dinner ready for us, then showers for us all, then massage for zen then bouncing patting whatever until he is asleep.
Today I did the day care drop off with both kids, DP is back at work. I managed a small grocery shop and I'm about to goout for lunch to my old work. Zen has been sleeping so I expect him to wake just as we are leaving... wish me luck!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Luck! That sounds like a good plan Phyrephly, hopefully you can settle into a good routine, especially now dp is back at work. Remember Zen is a different baby and he won't necessarily follow the same path as his brother. Here's hoping he lives up to his name ;)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I am so very very honoured and excited to let you all know that Tegam had a baby boy! Born at 12:22pm today at home, weighing 4kgs, Tegam feeling great.
