I went to the gym this morning and worked my tail off!! This is going to be a good thing I think.
The gym had lots of duathlon/triathlon notices up - there is a doable triathlon in 6w - 300m swim, 10k ride, 3k run. I think the only really challenging thing for me would be the run - so I'm going to aim for this. By that date I want to be able to do 10k on the bike, and then 3k running on the treadmill. Mayeb I will sign up for it, but its $75 and that seems a little exorbitant!
And this afternoon I'm off to do 4hrs gardening, so that will be a good work out too :)
-
Whoa Fi, that is great work :)
I have decided that I DO have a spare hour in my day after all - Oliver wakes up for a feed about 6 - 6.30am and then Flynn usually isn't up til around 7.30-8am. So during that "quiet time" I can go out for a walk or a run (once I get fit LOL!) Because DH is a full time SAHD I don't even have to worry about leaving the boys :)
So that will be my challenge - to get out every morning for a walk/run - even if its for 20 minutes.
-
i have decided that as soon as it stops raining here ( which i hope won't be for another week at least - we need every drop we can get ) i am going to start walking the kids to school every day 5 km round trip though i might drive to pisk them up i could only imagine the walk home other wise ,,,, are we there yet i 'm tired i'm hungry etc etc
-
I am struggling to get the excersise I need.
Rory, I am envious that you can nip out for walks with DH still there to look after the boys........that was what I was doing whist DH was on annual leave, but now he is back at work and I am missing that opportunity...........
DH suggested last night an excersise bike or a treadmill for home, so I am going to investigate prices today. (I have a dread that a good one will be exy, and that a cheap one will be crappy.....so if anyone has any advice on this, let me know!)
-
Lucy.. I hear ya on the not enough exercise front... I have a x trainer & exercycle at home & STILL dont use them enough... started off good but... slipped down the sliding slope!!
-
Morning all.
Lea, are we supposed to send you our weights once a week?
Well I'm continuing with my C25K - have got a mum from MG to do it with me! Yay!
Pushups - hmmm, not good with my back, but the crunches are cool :D
-
Kaz - I think the first official weigh in and measurements is Feb 1st.
I have been so slack with exercise but am going to go to "strong and stable" today, which is kinda like pilates. The crazy gym lady who took the circuit class last week wanted me to do 1 legged squats, standing on the bench (I fall over doing squats with both legs on the ground...) with weights. I laughed at her! Had a go with no weights though and it was erally really hard but I did manage to not fall off!
Mmm I want a payrise so DH can be a SAHD.
-
Hey Everyone!!
I hope everyone is doing well.
My first question.. has anyone started doing those 8 minutes in the morning exercises that I sent through to some people?
I lost about 1kg last week. I am happy about that but I normally average about 1.3kg a week but had a few weeks off so I slowly getting in to the swing of things again. I am hoping to lose 2kg before the 3rd of Feb (my birthday!) so that is going to be my birthday present to myself :)
-
I havent started them yet, as I only installed the printer at home last night so I hadnt printed them off yet. WIll try tomorrow!
-
I know it was last weeks challenge... but here are my 10 reasons for wanting to lose weight:
1. So that I can fit into all my old clothes
2. So that I can feel confident
3. So that I can feel proud - and make my DH proud of me too
4. So that I look good in photos.
5. So that I will have plenty of energy to run around with my kids
6. So that I will grow old to see my kids grow up (and hopefully have grandkids!)
7. So I can finally say "no" to delicious foods that are presented to me
8. So that I do not have to buy "tent tops". I would love to have a fitted white shirt that doesn't gape at the boobs
9. So that my kids will not be embarrassed of me when they eventually go to school
10. So that I can achieve what I have been trying to do for as long as I can remember - get to goal weight
Fi - $75 may be expensive - but it will make you more inspired to do it. Good on you for even thinking about it.
Shazz - a 5km daily walk is great! Hope the weather clears up so you can get into it.
Aurora - good on you for "finding" that time. I've got a million things that need to be done - but I've realised that I have to "find" at least 1/2 an hour a day - for ME. This is important.
Lucy - you should consider hiring a bike or treadmill. Then if you don't use it regularly - it's not going to be lying around collecting dust. But if you do use it regularly - you can then invest in a good one - maybe a birthday or Xmas present.
Kaz - great that you've got someone to do the C25K with you. It's so much easier when you are accountable to someone else.
Mitch - if you've got some equipment... why not set yourself a mini goal. Say 10 minutes a day on one/both peices of equipment. 10 mins doesn't sound a lot - but that's more then an hours extra exercise a week. And if you did 15 minutes - that would be 1.5 hours!
Ray - I hear ya about the SAHD. Although, I want to be rich enough that neither of us have to work!
Veronica - congrats on the 1kg. 2kg by the 3rd Feb is do-able. But you have to be "good". Step up your exercise and watch what you eat. You'll be looking mighty fine for your birthday!
-
Ngala - I've started them. Been doing them religiously for a week now. Lol I do them while Darcy has her bottle in the quiet time after her bath. I've usually been for a walk before that so I'm warm. She must think I look ridiculous but I don't care much.
Ray - Pilates is great. Have you ever been before? You'll find belly muscles you never even dreamt of.
Lucy my mum hired a treadmill for the same reason a couple of years back. It did collect dust, so she didn't buy one, but sometimes the incentive is the money that you pay I guess, like a gym membership.
Rory good for you! That's a top idea. Around here everyone walks of a morning. It's such a beautiful time of day. I can't justify dragging a sleeping child out into it though.....maybe when DH gets home.
Kaz how are you finding the couch to 5K?
Shazz that sounds like a good idea. Even 3 times a week would be a benefit.
Fi, wow that's certainly a challenge! Good luck with it.
Nat I did last weeks challenges thankyou. And I will continue with them. Once upon a time I could bang out pushups with the best of them....wonder how long it will take me to get back to 'real' ones now???? Mind you then I could benchpress 30kgs too:rolleyes:
-
Got me a free months trial on a Orbitrek Elite machine..........
-
Fi - the triathalon sounds good. I want to do a group tiralthalon, but the swimming leg is always so short. I want a 3km swim, 300m run and 10k bike ride! *lol*
-
Well done Lucy - how did you score that????
I've finally got the kids to sleep. Trying to motivate myself for another boxing session. Mmmm... 10pm.
Heap of bookwork & filing to do (got a reminder from the accountant today).
But - I have to do it. For me. And to work off the Pizza Hut pizza I just ate... Ooops.
-
Hi girls, i havent really been on the thread much lately however just wanted to say that i've now lost 3kgs! in 2.5weeks so i'm very happy with myself... just healthy eating and not snacking on garbage foods like chocolate anymore. used to eat choc daily!
I haven't really been exercising like i would like to but we have been doing very long hrs at work so it's hard we come home tired besides i have a physical job at work as it is (carrying and lifting all day so its like going to the gym!).
I had a couple of drinks last night and tonight because my AF came :( and that was my incentive! i felt i deserved a few drinks of rum! lol (diet coke!) so back to it tomorrow, no more drinkies after this last one now....
Hope you are all going really well :)
-
Lucy that is awesome! How did you manage that?
Arghhh this is the second time I've tried to post today and been interuppted!! Em is still up  after a late nap and now wants to play lol. Which makes posting hard!
I tried an RPM class this week and it wasn't too bad! You def feel it in the thighs! I am going again tomorrow *eek* Weight work is still going well - lifting heavier and heavier now. I am finding that one arm is weaker then the other at times lol which makes it hard!!!
I tried push ups today and I got till 11 lol... that was after my work out though. Will try first thing in the morning and see how many I can do in a row!
Good luck girls... will be back into post better tomorrow!!
-
Lea - see RPM isnt that bad hey!! Just think of those leg and butt muscles you will soon get! ;)
-
I reckon RPM is a killer - depending on the instructor. I went to a class were the instructor was watching every person in the class and individually catching us all out! That was a killer!
Lucy - I was going to suggest hiring too. I've been using the elliptical riders at the gym, and they give me a really good work out. Dont burn that many calories, but stil a good cardio!
Ray - I agree, I dont want to do the run leg either!!!
I'm a bit annoyed - I was reading the paper this morning, and the gym I joined on Monday is having a Jan special where you get not joining fe ($25) and free PT sessions. Noone mentioned this to me, so I am going to have to go and say..... OI!!!!! I really need the PT sessions I think.
I hope they are nice about it!
-
I havent "officially" joined the challenge but I have only recently started exercising again so I have been keeping on eye on this thread for inspiration!
V - are you able to send me the (or tell me where I can fine them) 8 minutes exercises - they sound great.
Good luck everyone else.
Jem
-
Hey Renstar congrats on your 3kg loss - that's great
-
DH flys off to sydney this morning, so I can go full-guns ahead with everything now, I will miss him but at the moment his work is there and mine is here, so we will have a long distance relationship for quite a bit this year (even more long distance if he does the summer concert season in Europe)
-
congratulations Renstar on your loss!
well I was really good yesterday, going to pilates and staying on track food wise. Well, I didn't eat anything I wasnt supposed to but I probably should have eaten more vegies than I did, but DH wasnt home and DS was asleep so there wasnt a lot of opportunity for food shopping.
-
Food shopping for me today and I'm about to sit down and do a meal plan. I have LOTS of lamb to eat lol so that's what I'm gonna have for the next few weeks. I am trying not to buy any junk at all... if its not there then I can't eat it lol!
I think I am going to RPM again tonight. Sucker aren't I??
Fi I hope you get those PT sessions! I got a free one with my membership but I am almost too scared to take it... I feel silly taking one when I know I can't afford to have them on a permanent basis.
Renstar that is a fantastic effort! WTG  Don't beat yourself up over a few slip ups... everything in moderation remember!
Kim Do you feel as though those exercises are working? I started printing them out and then ran out of paper lol. I didn't realise it was so long!!
Schaz Buggar about your DH going away for awhile. But at least you have this to keep you motivated. How long is he going for? He will certainly notice the difference in you!!
-
Lea - you should take that PT session. Its good because you may go on a peice of equipment that you never even thought of going on before.
Jem - hey!! I PM'ed you asking for your email address so once I get that, I will email it through to you :)
Why is it that when I want to do something, like go for a swim in the pool, DD decides not to go to sleep like she is meant to when she is clearly tired!
-
Can't stop to chat.....gotta fly out of the door.......but just wanted to pop in to tell you all I had my weigh in today at kate Morgan.........I lost 3.1kg!
-
Woohoo Lucy that is awesome...
So great to see losses... makes me keep focused on beating you all hahahah j/k
I will be weighing again tomorrow, heres hoping there is a change from next Friday (even though my exercise has been really slack!!!)
-
Not been active here for a few days - also not been active physically either.
Was a bit disappointed end of last week when i hadn't lost anything regardless of the manic cleaning and gardening Ihad been doing.
But let's face it - I really wasn't eating enough or drinking enough.
My body doesn't respond well to missed meals - I don't get hungry - it just sort of shuts down.
This week I have been a lot more focused and have had a .5 kilo loss already.
I am really getting into some sort of riutine that will have me having breakfast etc. We have a double story place and I get up, go to bathroom, go into study and 4 hours later I have had nothing to eat or drink!
So, now I am am preparing for a week at a time. Making smoothies and freezing. Not as good as fresh but better than nothing or junk. I take powdered supplements so each night I will take out my smoothie and let it deforst - then add nutritional powders and drink.
It is a start!
-
how to drink more water
I have a real problem with water - any liquid.
I am like a camel and have been since a kid. I just don't rcognise thirst so the only way for me to get liquid into my body is to do it as a routine.
Today I had this revelation. I prefer drinking out of a small tumbler glass ratherthan a big glass. This is 150ml versus 300 ml.
150ml is nothing - four mouthfuls - reasonable size - not sips but not big gulps either.
But how is this!!
2 liters = 14 small glasses - one an hour.....
so, each hour I have four mouthfuls of water - even set a time sometimes.
And the thing is - when I drink the 150ml, I can often double it!!
-
I know this is my third post - that's what happens when I have three days off....
Fi - I did that triathlon when I was slimmer and youger - glad u think the swim is short - my weakest leg....came totally last but I did it!! A great challenge. Don't just train on an indoor bike or treadmill though - you need to go outside - treadmills are way easier than running outside so run about 30% more on the treadmill.
Kim - you may want to check out inliven on belly belly - https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...hlight=inliven - it really sorts out any gut issues. You can buy it through belly belly as well. There is a link somewhere.
Everyone else.....keep up the good work
I am off for 2 days partying in Sydney on Saturday and am hoping to keep on the straight and narrow. DH is currently away in Sydney - left on Wed and back on Fri - then we both fly to Sydney on Saturday. You'd think he would have stayed there for Fri nite but he is coming home to meet someone for drinks. I come back Mon but he stays all week.
What is means to me is a week of eating what I like with no temptations. I always lose weight when he is away......wonder if I should get divorced in order to get thin...???
Off to make lunch and have more water.....
-
Tracey, does inliven have any blood sugar balanceing effects? I find I have trouble in this area
-
WTG Lucy! Much  going on here for you!
Lea - I did food shopping today too. I didn't really plan much re; meals but have done that in the past and found it worked really well. I just made sure everything that went in was healthy, unprocessed, low fat etc (except for milk - I am going to try full cream milk for a bit because I think it helps you absorb more calcium? I think Shaz put up a post about it somewhere around here).
-
what will help with absorbing calcium is to get more form non dairy sources (in addition to them) as the high protein levels in dairy can inhibit calcium absorbtion.
-
AGHHHH I feel like screaming.
Haven't done a single yoga yet. Pip doesn't like 11am for some reason. He's been screaming since then, I've put him in his cot while I get some time in another room!
Anyhows, I think my microwave is conspiring to keep me healthy - I went to nuke a couple of mini-pies for lunch and they burnt very badly, so had flavoured tuna in springwater on vitawheat instead.
the C25K is going well, I had to redo week 1 with my gf but that's OK :D
Tracey - I'm with you, I just forget to eat & drink until I'm really hungry.
-
can someone point me in the direction of this cardio program? Sounds like one I designed for clients in the past but would like to see what someone else put together.
rayray - yes, it helps with blood sugar - I find I don't get the sugar swings when I take it.
We call it getting 'hangry' ..... when you get hungry and your blood sugar falls and you get angry and you eat junk to pull it up fast!!
-
-
Lucy - that is a great loss!! Big WOOHOO for you :D
Kaz - I know the feeling! Avaleigh was horrible this morning when I wanted to go swimming. She is down for a nap now so I should get outside for a swim but I already washed my hair today.
I managed to do the week 1 of the 8 minutes in the mornings today. I know you arent meant to do it all in one day but I thought I would give it a go and some bits are quite difficult.. like when you need to hold your leg up for 30 seconds!
-
ummmm.....
i've fallen off the wagon
*gracie runs and hides**
-
Hang in there Gracie.. It took me quite a while to get serious about the 'wagon' when I first started after the birth of DD. Its a total mind frame that you need to change. I still eat a little bit of junk, but all the good stuff out weigh the bad stuff. Hang in there and get back on the wagon!! Just take little steps. Sit down and think about what you eat, especially what bad stuff you eat and then maybe slowly cut down on that until its totally out of your diet?..
-
Gracie, just hop back on sweets!
I was chatting to a friend of mine today (a male friend who has lost nearly 80kg and kept it off!!! He is a legend.) He stressed that "If you fall off the wagon, don;t stress, just hop back on the next day and don;t beat yourself up."
He was telling me how, after a whole year of fairly rigid dieting, he cracked and shovelled a massive amount of KFC. He said he felt like an alcoholic who had been sober for a year then had got drunk. But then he just got back onto his plan the next day and removed the guilt from his memory.
