I learnt a lot of basics from you tube! It's a good place to start as you can get a grasp of the basics in a more practical way than a book I think, without having to find the 'right' book IFKWIM.
So far I have only done straight line quilting, diamond and 1/4" off seam but I am keen to give other styles a go when I get my machine back (repairs ). I found the walking foot has really made a difference, it is so much easier and more professional.
Another hint, I started doing a cushion and a couple of doll quilts first to get the hang of the technique and it really helped as they were not too big to handle. The faults are less likely to be picked up by a 2 year old too!
I guess it all depends on how you like to learn, do you like to figure it out for yourself or do you like to have someone there to help and speed up the learning process. Do you have a good local place you can look up classes?
