Raymond E Feist - similar recommendations?

I second the David Eddings option. My Husband loves Eddings AND Feist! Belgariad is definitely a good place to start!

I absolutely loved The Magician. One of my favourite books for a while. Oh, how I wish I had time to read these days...

I enjoyed Eddings as well, but be aware that his books don't have the same scope as Feist's. Their best features are their accessibility - classic fantasy tropes, awesome characters, and a good read that you can put down and come back too later without having to work too hard to get back up to speed.

Love most of the people mentioned - did anyone say the Wurts series???

BW got me into Juillette Marillier, who I would also recommend.

If you are into one off books - Zettel and IV Jones are good.

Classics - how about Douglas Adams Hitchhikers, Asminov (must admit to only reading a few of these) or LOTRs???

DH liked Stephen King's Dark Tower - me not so much...

He has just recently finsihed a LOTR reread!
And I can't get him to go near Stephen King.
He's very picky and doesn't like to try new things but im sure his mind will change after a few mornings of no books on the train.

I definantly would reccomend Ian Irvine, start with the first series of The View from the Mirror. I loved them. Dh and I would fight over who got to read the next one. He then has a second series years in the future and a third series which he hasnt finished yet.

The Stephen King dark tower series I am having trouble getting DH to read those aswell. I have read them all and I must admit the first book is really boring the second gets better, but then you get really involved after that. It is a challenge but well worth it in the end.

Ooh, great suggestions here, will enjoy my trip to the library this week!
Also the Witches of Eileannan by Kate Forsyth, great, strong women lead characters.
I too hate getting part way through a series and finding out the author is still writing so I have to wait for the next book grrr
BUT Isobelle Carmody is my second favourite author of all time, the new Obernewtyn book is great but I had no idea it was out, stumbled upon it in a bookshop a month ago and nearly lost my mind with excitement. She's frustrating because she has three unfinished series on the go and the last Obernewtyn book took 10 years to come out !!!

Oh forgot to mention. In the book Magician, they were fighting people from another world right? Well the guy who wrote magician has co-wrote with a woman another series based on the world from which the fighters came from. I have the books in storage so cant give you exact details, but I think there are 3 of them, starting with Daughter of the Empire. I REALLY enjoyed these books. Worth a try.

Sally-Yes I agree, nothing more annoying than not having a completed series to read. I too have had a little part when I have seen certain books, much to my mums amusement.
