I've just finished a good old John Grisham, "The Bretheren". It was pretty enjoyable, but I wasn't happy about the ending ...
oh well ...
now to pick my next book!
non fiction, drama, crime or romance?
OP, that sounds great. I'm moving to CB, between HB and AC
Cassius2, I might give that a go. I love to read something that is just beautiful. Your description has me quite taken.

Im reading Catching fire oh and hidden by Cathy Glass
OP, glad I could be of help
I have just finished One Day and was very surprised by the ending..haven't seen the movie yet.
I am reading The Time of my Life by Cecilia Ahern (Bertie Ahern's daughter). I have read quite a few of her books.
This one is about a girl who is struggling with a break up and enventually is summoned by her 'Life' for a an audit I suppose you would call it on her behaviour. 'Life' is with her to help get her back on track.
She writes some pretty funky books and they are usually a little out there. I love her!
Cassius: Is that a movie as well? I am pretty certain All Quiet on the Western Front was a movie years ago, it was my Dad's all time favourite.
This afternoon I devoured "Jasper Jones" by Craig Silvey. It's set in a small WA town in the early 60's from the perspective of a 13 year old boy. It was wonderful. I felt good just for having read it.
Now I have to go find his first book.
I've just started "the vampire psychologist" - it looked interesting enough in the bookshop.
After checking The Slap TV thread, I am curious to know if anyone has any reviews they are willing to share?
I am wanting to download it onto my Kobo.
The Kobo site has two covers showing with a $10 price difference between them.
I can't tell if the second release showing the cover of the actors on the TV show is any different to the original release.
I really don't care about covers as I am just downloading, so I am hoping someone may be able to shed some light if they are both the same version of book.
Heather we did the Slap. The original cover is dark green/black with some sort of face or hand just visible... With "The Slap" and author in big white letters. ITMS!
We were a bit divided by it. It certainly gave us things to talk about! It's full of controversial topics - not just the slap, but extended bf, alcoholism and domestic violence, underage drinking/drug use/sex, inappropriate relationships between adults/minors, adjusting to new cultures, displacement, homosexuality, just to name a few!!!!!
I liked parts of it but other parts I found quite confronting and excessively crude - like he was writing a sex scene and it was OTT graphic. Which I don't think is required... Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm a prude
Actually no others thought that too.
Hope that helps!
I've settled on a Jackie Collins (Hollywood Kids). Guessing that there will not be a single redeeming feature in the entire book, but sometimes my brain needs that...
I wanna read the Slap - might had ego get my hands on a copy. Right now I am reading the Power of One again! I haven't read it for over 10 years maybe even more, forgot how ace it is.
I'm reading "The Help"
It's good so far![]()
PN: I loved The Help.
I am reading Lola's Secret by Monica McInerney. I love her books.
After this I am going to brave The Slap![]()
i just finished 'the pact' by jodi picoult.
it's the first of her books that i've read & it was an easy read (not the subject matter itself). i'm interested to hear anyone else's opinions about her books? i thought it was quite good.
I didn't find The Slap enjoyable at all, but I don't regret reading it IYKWIM. None of the characters are likable in the least, but that's better than an overly simplified book where everyone is either "good" or "bad"...
I like her books, but I wouldn't read more than one in a row! I need a breather between her subject matter ... like a lot of authors!
Does anyone know when Marian Keyes' next book will be out? I was really dissappointed with her last one, and so I'm looking forward to her next effort, as the most recent one was the first of hers I haven't loved ...
