DS hates books but my DDs (2) love the Bamboo, Velvet and Beak books. I love reading them to them and I'm devastated I can't find the rest of the series.
My boys are growing out of these now but they were all favourites at one stage or another....
Room on the Broom
The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child.
The cat who walked across France
Madeline
The little red caboose
Where is the Green Sheep
Harry the dirty dog and harry by the sea
Peter Rabbit
Queenie the bantam
Let's get a dog
Olivia
The owl and the pussycat
Where the wild things are
The very hungry butterfly
Ernest
The man from Snowy river
Mulga Bill's Bicycle
Hop on pop
Green Eggs and Ham
The story about Ping
Tiki Tiki Tembo
Thomas the tank engine
Hairy McLairy
The when I'm feeling series
That's all I can recall off the top of my head but if I think of any more I'll edit my post to add them.
DD has a lot of books, but her current favourites are the Hairy Maclary series, especially Scattercat and Showbusiness. Her first favourite book as a baby was I Know A Rhino. She loves Playmates and The Waterhole. Good Night Me is a good one for bedtime.
Big sellers where I worked were Pamela Allen's books, starting with Who Sank The Boat, and then onto things like Mr McGee. Mem Fox is also a good one with Where Is The Green Sheep (which I wasn't a fan of but kids loved) and Koala Lou. John Butler books are great too - If You See A Kitten was a nightly read here when DD was really little.
Anything that has a rhyme at the end, that the kids can predict works really well (ie - I know a rhino, he likes to take tea. I have two sugars and rhino takes three). We wouldn't read the final word and DD would scream it out. Books are lots of fun here
I guess you could say that these are favourites of mine too - seeing as I bought 99% of them while I was working before she was born. I had visions of having a child that hated books
We have a wide selection as well. DD likes the "How do Dinosaurs" series. Anything Fairy. But a few we have are:
There's a Sea in my bedroom
There's a Hippopotamaus on my school roof.
Where do Kisses come from
Frosty the snowman
The sleepy dog and other stories
Oh the places you'll go
Cat in the hat
Good night Me
Sorry
Wombat Stew (LOVES this one!)
Revolting Rhymes
I know all the words to "where's the green sheep" so that must be one
Hooray for fish
The Wonkey DOnkey
the That's not my.....books
ITNG books - though neither like the TV show
Books with lots of pictures and their words, like my first... type books. Both have liked being able to identify before mummy.
Who sank the boat and other Pam Allen books
Dear Zoo
Hop on Pop
A fly went by
We're going on a bear hunt
I went walking
Great thread! my DS3 is only just starting to enjoy the actual stories. Before now he was too hopped up on food additives to actually sit for the story, just a quick look at the pictures and he was off!
Now he's getting in to it his favourite seems to be Peepo! by Janet & Allan Ahlberg.
I'll be checking in n the thread to stock up on some more books. The lists are reminding me of some great stories
The Grug Series
Dr Suess ABC
Cat In The Hat
The Cat in the Hat comes Back
One Fish Two Fish
ITNG books
The Russell The Sheep Series
The Splat The Cat Series
Pamela Allen - particularly Mr Megee
Mem Fox
Charlie and Lolas - lots of those here
Anything Thomas
Dr Dog - that book is hilarious
Guess Who
Spot - in fact any lift the flap
Rainbow Fish
We have a huge selection though but they do tend to come back to favourites. DD is now at the age where we read novels - we read a chapter a night to her, things like the Rainbow Fairies, Dr Suess, Pinkaliicous etc.
