We looked at using them, but they deliver different things on different days and couldn't give us a delivery window. We use Melbourne Butchers online instead.
Thanks Tashybabe, I just had a look at Melbourne Butcher too. Can you take items out of the fruit and veg boxes if you don't want them or do you just get what you're given?
We get AFD - at the moment we are just getting bread (Rye bread and Fruit bread) and milk delivered twice a week - all good. I did try out the fruit and veg box - very good quality, but we didn't get through it all cause most of the time with DH being away it is just me and the kids. But, I am pretty sure they started the box where you could nominate quantities and exactely what you wanted in your fruit and veg box, which I think would be the way to go. I think it is such a great initiative and fantastic to have milk and bread at your doorstop on wake up rather than always having to rush out cause your running out of milk. Think it just takes a bit of time to work out the quantities of things that will suit your family so you might be changing your order online a bit to get it right. Enjoy. xxx
I can't live without them! We get bread and milk delivered twice week (and juice, cheese, eggs) and the family fruit and veg box. We are vegetarian so we do get through the big box between the 4 of us but there is a smaller box for couples you could get.
we had meat, bread, milk, and F&V, and ham for about 6 weeks with Aussie Farmers.
It was good quality although I felt there was a little too much sugar in the bread. We never made it through a F&V box (we got the couples one for the three of us). The veggies were not enough and too much fruit. We stopped that because we were getting stuff we don't eat - like mangoes! The ham was ok but a little fatty for my liking. Milk is milk in my book.
The meat was brilliant. The pieces were small but they were thick. I have never tasted meat so good! We were only getting lamb through them though.
In terms of delivery - they deliver different stuff on different days. We never had a problem really. But I did worry how the stuff would last if it was a HOT day. Especially since the front of the house gets the afternoon sun... but the meat, ham, bread, and milk were ALWAYS delivered early in the morning. it was there before I went to work - even on an early shift (where I leave at 6)!. AWESOME! The fruit and Veg was always delivered between 4 and 5pm for us.
I did get annoyed that the driver kept leaving stuff RIGHT in front of the front door. As in against the door so I struggled to open it if it was heavy (as in the F&V)! My bread was frequently squashed on our second delivery of the week which annoyed the crap out of me. And in the last week we used them, they couldn't deliver the milk in the morning one day because they had a leak with the milk. But he dropped it off that afternoon... but it was warm
Cost wise - I found they were more expensive overall. The F&V was great price wise though.
Overall, we were very happy with them. We only stopped because we felt financially we were better off doing it ourselves and we were sick of squashed bread... Give it a go and see what you think. There is no minimum commitment so if after the first delivery you don't want anything further, you can cancel with no drama's!
I am in your area and I have to say that the bread and milk etc is great BUT the fruit and veg I wasn't too keen on.
We got our first delivery last week and the quality wasn't the best. The tomatoes were very hard and were quite dry, the bananas were very small and so were the apples. I guess overall it was ok but I would rather buy from the local markets then spend my $$ on another box from them.
