I thought I would start a new thread. Here are a few baby food recipes:
Carrots & Rice Puree
2 tb Brown rice, uncooked
6 Carrots, scrubbed and chopped in small pieces
1 1/3 c Water (or broth or leftover cooking liquid from cooking vegetables)
1 teaspoon butter (optional)

A nutritious, smooth dish with a bit of texture for older infants.
Place rice and carrots in a saucepan with the water and cover. Simmer until the water is absorbed--about 30 to 40 minutes. When cool enough to handle, puree in blender or food processor with butter until smooth. Refrigerate, or freeze leftovers in ice cube tray.

Hi–Iron Muesli Cookies
Suitable from 9 Months
These cookies are handy to have in the cupboard for a little extra nutritious snack.
1 cup HEINZ Muesli & Apple Cereal
1 cup plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 dessertspoons (30g) margarine
1 cup HEINZ Pear Juice or milk
Method
Sift flour and baking powder, rub in margarine to resemble breadcrumbs. Add Muesli and liquids. Mix to a soft dough. Place heaped teaspoonfuls on a lightly greased tray. Lightly flatten with a fork dipped into flour (to prevent sticking).
Bake at 180oC until light brown.
Place on a cake cooler. Store in an airtight tin or freeze.
Hi-Iron Baby Biscuits
Suitable from 9 Months
These biscuits are handy to have in the cupboard for a little extra nutritious snack.
1 cup HEINZ Iron Enriched Cereal – any variety Red Label
1 cup plain flour
1 cup HEINZ Pear or Apple Juice
Method
Sift Flour and then add cereal. Mix to a dough with juice, knead and roll out to 6mm (1/4 inch) thick. Cut into biscuit shapes and bake at 180oC until light brown.
Place on a cake cooler. Store in an airtight tin or freeze.
***These biscuits should be quite hard to encourage biting and chewing.***

Baked Pear Custard
2 baby serves - suitable for babies 6-9mths
(cooked egg white in custard should be fine for most babies of this age. If you are concerned, seperate the yolk from the white of the egg.)
1/2 cup pear puree
1/2 cup milk
1 large egg
1. Preheat oven to 180c and grease a small ovenproof dish.
2. Spoon the pear puree into the bottom of the dish
3. Beat together the milk and egg and pour over the pear puree.
4. Stand in a small roasting tin with hot water halfway up the dish and bake for 20-30 minutes, or until set.
Grandma Dot's Baked Apple Custard
1-2 baby serves - Suitable for babies 6-9mths
1 cup apple puree
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavouring essence
1 egg
1. Preheat oven to 180c
2. Mix the apple puree with the milk, sugar and vanilla flavouring essence
3. Beat the egg well and stir into the mixture.
4. Pour into a greased oven proof dish.
5. Bake for 20 minutes or until set.
6. May be served hot or cold.
Variation - substitute apple puree for mashed banana and add another egg yolk to the egg for more nourishment.
200gm pumpkin chopped
1/4 cup chick peas
1 cup water
drain & rinse chick peas. Put all ingredients into a saucepan & boil for 15-20 minutes. Drain half the fluid out & mash or puree. Store in fridge 2-3 days or freeze.
wash spinach well... pop it all into a pot & boil for 15 minutes... puree or mash (you may want to drain some of the water out but I find that it takes most of the nutrients out so I just add some rice cereal to make it thicker...)
I got a new book the other day, but I lent it to kel So I'll have to post some of those recipes when I get a chance.
Just a tip too, when you make the iceblocks, transfer them to a snap lock bag or plastic container (its what we do with ice cubes) that way not only can you use your ice cube trays again but you can make more before you runn out that way you have a variety in the freezer.
just a little thing I just did... I bought a pack of frozen veges with broccoli, carrot, cauliflower and beans and boiled some up & froze them, it so easy for weeks where you dont have as much time, and yet they dont have any additives so they aren't that bad!
1 tbl Vegetable Oil
1 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced sweet potato
2 1/2 cups diced potato
1/2 cup diced carrot
1 415g can tomato puree
750ml chicken or vegetable stock
1/2 cup water
Heat the oil in a saucepan and cook the onion until translucent. Stir in the vegetables, tomato puree and half the stock. Simmer until the vegies are soft. Puree and return to heat, adding the remaining stock and water. Bring to the boil and serve.

Here is a really simple one. Its good for bub AND mum!! I ordered it while away in Noosa and they asked if I wanted it for my baby?? I didn't have a baby, I had asked for it for me, but it makes sense, I realised after. It was on a smoothy menu.
Blend:
Avocado
pear
when smooth, eat!! I had it in a smoothy cup and used a spoon. It was soooo delicious. fabulous from 6 months for bubs too. Use as much of each ingredient as you like.! O
Here's a recipe for soup that my 18 month old nephew loves. I'd give it to a 9 months plus.
Roast Vegie Soup
Roast a whole lot of vegies in the oven , pumpkin, potato, zuchinni, garlic, carrot, onion and whatever else you'd like.
Blend with a bit of vegie or chicken stock and serve.
REALLY delicious, he and I sit there and eat it together!!
It's also extremely easy and obvious, but I'd always made vegie soup with boiled vege until a Friend suggested this. It is SO much yummier!!

hmmm, they all sound yummy, and it is nice to see that there are some people who don't rely on preserved proccessed food for the precious bubs, it isn't that hard to cookup a bunch and freeze it. My mother always used home cooked food for us as bubs, and there was 4 of us.
Started Will off on Vegies first ,as so he wouldn't get into the sweet stuff eg:fruits, but from the word go and first meal, he gagged, and he was starving at 5mths so I had no choice but to feed him, as boob wasnt sufficient enough. But now he wont have the vegies and believe me Ive persisted every day, and wasted food every day, please suggest something to help me with vegies? PS Ive done separate ones potatoes one day then pumkin the next, sprouts, zucchini, you name it ive tried, what can i do??????? :-k
Have you tried adding other things to the vegetables, like grated cheese or some rice? That would give it a little bit of a different flavour. At the moment I'm having the opposite problem....Jacob is going great guns with his vegies, but is on some kind of fruit protest LOL!!
1 cup aborio rice
approx 1 litre (maybe a bit less) of veg or chicken stock - i buy the salt reduced kind
1 onion finely chopped
1/2 celery stick (otional) - finely chopped
Parsley and/or other basic herbs -chopped(optional)
U CAN ADD: any vegetables u desire - i usually make a mushroom risotto where i add a lge handful of chopped mushrooms
- or frozen peas and corn
- or boiled til soft: diced sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot
- tinned (in brine) tuna, salmon or finely diced chicken tenderloins (steamed) is another variation if u don't want plain veg risotto
Put stock in saucepan and bring to boil then reduce heat until simmering.
Lightly spray a lge saucepan with cooking oil and heat on med. Add onion, garlic and celery - cook for 2-3mins. Add 2 tblsp of water and cover for few mins or until veg have softened.
Add aborio rice and stir in 2 more tblesp water until rice is well covered.
Gradually add - 1/2 cup at a time the stock to the rice mixture, stiring constantly over low heat until all stock had been absorbed and rice is tender....but just before u add the last 1/2 cup of stock add the vegetables/fish/chicken u desire and herbs.
Can sprinkle parmesan or grated cheese through it (my bub can't have dairy so we don't add that)
*** i absolutely love this recipe...it mightn't sound like it but it's really easy and makes a heap (so i freeze in separate containers for other meals). It's great cause u can vary it to whatever u like.
Double the recipe and there's enough to feed the whole family and have left overs for bubs meals (i always add some seasalt and cracked pepper to it if its for me and hubby)
Just been looking through for some meal ideas for coco (9 1/2 months). I am going to try the baked beans and pumpkin and also a tuna risotto. What she usually eats is:
spag in the Slow Cooker!
Mince
tin organic tomatoes (nothing added, available woollies)
leek chopped
jerusalem artichoke chopped
carrot chopped
pumpkin chopped
(any veg of choice)
I let it cook all day. You can also just do it on stove top.
Add pasta to it, or potato, or just plain. It's a hit!!
I also tried the following...NOT a hit!!:
tinned salmon
avocado
cottage cheese.
Wish she liked it as it's soooo easy and healthy!!
I also do lamb shanks and vegies (just chop some of the meat off).
Salmon rissoles
I made these the other day. I made them for DH and I but didn't add egg for coco's so hers went like this
Tinned salmon (one or two cans)
mashed potato (about 3 potatos)
a little grated ginger
crushed garlic
chopped coriander (all of these I just estimated).
I then dipped in breadcrumbs and fried. She loved them!! Great for her to pick up too!
