    best bakeries in australia....?

i am a bakery tragic. when ever i travel to or through a town i look for a bakery to check it out and rate. my friends and i share notes on the best bakeries we have found, their specialities etc and i was wondering if you have a favourite bakery in Aus (or elsewhere) to share???

to start, my all time favourite bakery is in Hobart. Jackman and McRoss in Battery Point. ummmm both the savoury and sweet pastries are unique, delicate and flavorsome and also the breads (sour dough TDF) are simply AMAZING!!! i am drooling at the thought....

also i got the best bee sting ever in Yea, Victoria.....

Aparently Tatura, Vic have won awards for their Vanilla slice 2 years running?? Dunno...

Beechworth Bakery is famous... I hate it tho, always packed and takes for ever to get served.

Freemans in Shepparton have Yummo food!!

Tanya the first thing that popped into my head was Beechworth Bakery! I love it and if I find out DH has been there for work and he doesn't bring me home a chocolate eclair he is in strife!

    Excellent thread Dusty!

When we do long car trips we try to find a good bakery before resorting to a fast food chain.

I know that there is a good one in Sorrento (Vic) we got a yummo vanilla slice before hopping on the ferry.

There is also a good pie bakery in Gunnedah (nsw) but I can't remember the name of it.

There is a cafe in Daylesford (vic) that makes the best chicken and pumpkin curry pies too... but the name escapes me... it's on the main street though.

My favourite bakery in Melbourne would have to be the famous Phillipa's Bakery in Armidale... you can buy phillipas bread in many fine food places too. Absolutely the best and most authentic bread in Melbourne I think!

oooooh some excellent places and goodies all over! love it!

bath i 'discovered' phillipa's breads this summer at our local store and LOVE it. the chocolate brownies and olive loaf are TDF.

Silo (Kingston) and Cornucopia (Braddon) in Canberra are fabbo too. ummm C's Pumpkin Pillows make you want to rest your head and savour the feeling.

I second Woodend for the vanilla slices, they are to die for.

Not sure if it is still going, but Konditeri Manfred in Launceston is a great german bakery. The bread is amazing and so are the hazelnut rings (yum).

Well there is the most awesome bakery in Brisbane if anyone wants to try it out!

It's called CARBY'S and it's on Hamilton Road, Wavell Heights, it is the best ever. I seriously have never had items soooooooooooo yummy from any other bakery.

If you are into really sweet things, try the neenish tarts, to die for
