The only reason I get the cheeseburger from Maccas if for the pickle. I am known to order a sundae cup of pickles from Maccas on occassion as well. They don't charge for them either :lol:
Ummm yes way :lol:. All my life I have been able to sit down and eat a whole jar of dill pickles but my favorite pickles always have been the Maccas ones. They just have more bite yummy!
Oooh when I saw this thread I knew I just had to post what I have experienced to be the greatest food crime: imagine a nice BBQ chook and some pasta. Okay you've got the basics for an acceptable meal.
BUT: Now add a whole jar for full-fat Praise mayonaise and 1/2 a cup of soy sauce (yes soy!) to the hot and overcooked pasta and hot shredded chicken. Mixed until it's all gluggy and gluey, over the heat so you get that mayonaise nice and hot. Serve alone. It is virtually inedible! Who eats heated mayonaise???
This was one of my mother-in-law's classic dishes. I just detest it. She means well...
Now onto what is great. Tofu noodles with coriander from a really good noodle shop. A hot chocolate after a horrible morning at work. Cheesecake...

Spam...you know that awful "ham in a can" crap...my grandma tried to serve that to us for dinner one night when we were kids, wasn't like we were having anything fancy, she just made sandwiches..but had to say NO THANKYOU to the SPAM.. *yuck*!
My dad is really awful with sandwiches/toast- couple of his favourites- honey & vegemite, vegemite & tomato, honey & cheese...disgusting mix of things that just do not go together!
I'll admit I should be locked up...I love BBQ sauce...mum used to get so cranky with us for putting sauce on everything :p

This is probably going to be considered a huge food crime, but...I like baked beans on toast...toast first, then (good quality) tuna in olive oil, then the beans, then sliced tomato, then cheese :lol: I'd like to say this is a weird and transient pregnancy craving, but it's not! Ooh and cheese and jam sanwiches! Thanks Dad!
Mum used to make us spam fritters when we were kids (she's a Pom), and to be honest I'd probably still eat them today! She used to make corned beef fritters with left over corned beef, too, with a side of bubble and squeak, yumm...
I think inappropriate use of tomato sauce is on my list of food crimes, my mate puts it on Chinese food :lol:

I think the biggest food crime is Vegemite, ugh that's horrid stuff! Once I tried a sample of vegemite ice cream which was even worse.
Other crimes:
white bread
processed plastic cheese slices (have to admit they are ok on burgers though)
aerosol cheese
cheese whiz
spam
butter on any sandwiches
canned ham
cheap fake tasting chocolate
Peanut butter and bologna sandwiches (my nephews favourite, yuck)
Oh, where to start...
* Low or no fat milk. Actually, reduced fat anything (cheese, yoghurt)
* Supplements added to food. If I feel like I am lacking iron, vitamin C, etc. then I will take it myself at the dosage I need.
* Margarine
* Plastic Cheese
* Sweetener
* Most chocolate or strawberry flavoured things that probably have never come near a real strawberry or chocolate
* My BFF's ex ate Sardines on Cinnamon & Raisin toast once - just the thought makes me ill.
* Just add water mashed potato - come on!!!
* I hate overcooked pasta or vegies. But my MIL serves her brussels almost raw - gross
* Steamed supermarket veges with nothing added - no salt, no butter, no herbs, not even a dash of oyster sauce - so bland.
* yes, oversalted food is gross. But I don't like it with no salt added either. I am guilty of salting MIL's food before trying it because I know that she never uses salt. By the way, adding salt later is NOT the same as adding it when cooking.
* My MIL will cook a roast, the throw away the pan juices and serve the meat with Gravox made with water. Gross.
* She also throws away the chicken or turkey skin and legs because they are too fatty. Then she'll follow the meal with rich cheesecake with cream and ice cream on top. WTF? I rather eat less of the dessert but enjoy the best parts of the chicken...
* DH puts so much hot english mustard on his steak that he looks like he's in pain wsith every bite. Really bugs me when I have bought a prime cut of meat and cooked it to perfection.
* Vinegar on hot chips - yuck
* Canned Spaghetti
* Dry Tiramisu with whipped cream instead of the Mascarpone mix. Another one of MIL's sins... Can you tell I don't rate her cooking?
* cutting every miniscule bit of fat off the meat BEFORE cooking.
* Having a freezer full of those frozen fish portions when we live near the ocean and have easy access to fresh fish. Yes, MIL again...
* Most Supermarket breads... although I do buy it sdometimes.
* Ham that is not real ham. anything that is an overprocessed verrsion of a real fooda (ie. mayo).
* yes, definitely drowning everything in tomato sauce
* Fried eggs with cooked yolk.
* Egg on Pizza. Actually most chain store Pizza.
* I never order Spag Bol when out. It is usually watery and bland.
I'm sure there are lots more.
By the way, I grew up in Germany and I never had savoury popcorn before moving here.

I have a MASSIVE issue with over beaten scrambled eggs, cooked int he microwave - BEATING THE EGGS WITHIN AN INCH OF THEIR LIVES DOES NOT MAKE THEM LIGHT AND FLUFFY!!
And cooking them in the microwave is just wrong!
DH and flat mate - both Kiwis - love to add lumps of butter to EVERYTHING - not just normal things like peas or on the corn cob - but I will make pumpkin soup and they will put a tablespoon on butter in the bowl and eat it! so gross! lol ETA also they do this to Baked Beans on toast...:wall:
I also have massive issues when people ask for their steak "blue" and then send it back saying it is too rare! :angry: Rule of thumb - DO NOT ask for a "blue" steak if you in fact dont know what it is, and DO NOT send back a steak to a chef saying it is not cooked to order unless you know what you are talkig about! In fact, just dont do it at all - we know what we are doing!
I love a little butter on things like steamed vegies, rice, corn, potato... but adding it to soup??? I do however like dollop of sour cream in my pumpkin soup, or any other cream of vege soup.
And totally agree with the scrambled eggs. I actually don't beat mine at all, just stir them up in the pan...
And doing them in the microwave??? Why???
I don't really cook anything in the microwave. I only use it to defrost or heat things.

Tomato Sauce on sandwiches!!
Sugar on cereal. Most of it is full of sugar anyway why add more?? The exception for this rule in my house is Weet Bix, Vita Brits (which are the only 2 brands without sugar) and Porridge.
Definitely overuse of tomato sauce. I never put it on anything except meat pies.
Instant coffee - bleurk. The only exception to this rule is those Nescafe coffee sticks (you know, those ridiculously overpriced powdered cappuccino/latte things? Just add hot water? I loooooove them).
Any kind of cheese other than parmesan on spaghetti bolognaise or tomato-based pastas - DH insists on putting grated tasty all over his spag bol. It grosses me out. The smell alone takes me back to the weekend we stayed with some family friends when I was about 12, and they cooked up this awful bland, watery pasta with a bit of cheap mince and tomato sauce and then smothered my plate with cheese without asking whether I *wanted* cheese - it stunk like vomit and I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. Then I got roused at for not being grateful for the food I'd been given... :/
White sauce. Ugh. Can't stand it! It tastes like glue and I don't know what possesses anybody to put it on their food.
Oh, and I still laugh at DH's attempt at fried rice - yup, just chucked raw grains in a frypan and wondered why they didn't come up all soft and fluffy like the stuff you get from Chinese restaurants!

Getting Sliced prosciutto with tiny flecks of the plastic still left on (from the outer coating) so this means you have to pick the plastic off which takes off most of the outside fat (which is part of the flavour) oh and on top of that when I order prosciutto thinly sliced PLEASE put sheets between each layer, if I wanted a big CLUMP of prosciutto I would have asked for it.

well, that's a bit different as it's not really a "cold cut" then. But to be honest, even crispy panccetta, I'd prefer it sliced fairly thinly, then crisped up in the pan in strips.
I love wrapping prosciutto around chicken breasts or a fish fillet and then baking it in the oven, mmm....That's kinda off-topic from food crimes though!

I had to dig into my emergency night shift stash last night and ended up with a tin of chicken and sweet corn soup. Usually one of my favourites from a Chinese restaurant, awful from a can!
I am now adding any tinned soup with meat in it to my list :lol: I still love my tinned tomato soup though :D
My work collegue was telling us her fav brekky... pancakes, with crunchy bacon, and peanut butter in between, and a fried egg runny yolk on top AND maple syrup all over!!!
Some of us turned green......not to mention the calories in that one!
One of my favourites, which will turn stomaches perhaps is plain salted potato chips with plain dairy milk chocolate -YUM!

sorry, avo, bacon and jam is actually quite nice!! :lol: when I worked in a cafe we used to get this guy who would have avo, bacon and vegemite!
One of the kids at work has ham and strawberry jam - I guess it would be kinda like ham and chutney.
