    Thanks for all your input.
I don't feel bad about sending oreos to school now
I don't mind the boys having sugar and processed foods occasionally for parties. I figure that if I want to teach them the difference between sometimes food and everyday food I need to let them have sometimes food sometimes.
I don't mind baking on occasion but I hate baking stuff that won't be eaten so anything I baked would be sugar laden and covered in sprinkles anyway. I thought about the strawberry santas but by the time they had been carried to school and rattled around in a bag they would just be a creamy, strawberry'y mess not cute little santas and I think turning up with a tray that my children can't carry is just a tiny bit precious.

I buy. I don't hate the kids so why expose them to my baking?

Just got a note from school to provide cake enough for five children for the class party. DD has requested chocolate as it is her friend's favourite. I will be baking five chocolate cupcakes
Now, what to do with the rest....

Does everyone send in what they're told to? At our school about half of the parents send in food for the parties.

I think they do?? The way the do it is the kids are put into groups of five (within their class) and each is allocated something to bring - fruit, sandwiches, cake, drink, chips/lollies.
In a way it is a good idea because there is less chance of overeating or waste and only catering for five makes it easier/cheaper.

The class teacher put a piece of paper up on the wall by the door and the parents had to write their name and what they were going to bring - so we got to choose.

And my homemade sausage rolls went within 5 minutes There was a range of homemade and store bought stuff, pretty much all of it got eaten, even the fruit.

For DD's kinder we are taking a plate for after the Christmas Concert today - I bought a Betty Crocker Choc Chip biscuit pre-mix, normally I would have made the biscuits from scratch but meh, what can I say....yadayada yada, time and all that, and Monday is the last day so we take a plate for that, I am going to take (all going to plan) banana cupcakes with icing and sprinkles...

You do what you do, with the time, resources and everything else you have available to you. I don't hold it against a parent who brings something from the shops, like anything there are loads of reasons why anyone does anything. Mmmm pass me the oreo's please....
