I buy. I don't hate the kids so why expose them to my baking?
For DD's kinder we are taking a plate for after the Christmas Concert today - I bought a Betty Crocker Choc Chip biscuit pre-mix, normally I would have made the biscuits from scratch but meh, what can I say....yadayada yada, time and all that, and Monday is the last day so we take a plate for that, I am going to take (all going to plan) banana cupcakes with icing and sprinkles...
You do what you do, with the time, resources and everything else you have available to you. I don't hold it against a parent who brings something from the shops, like anything there are loads of reasons why anyone does anything. Mmmm pass me the oreo's please....
Is this food for end of term an Australian thing? I don't remember it at school in UK at all (maybe that is why am against it), here seems everywhere is obsessed with it. Maybe is because had school dinners in UK (I wish had here, I am a big believer in proper meal in middle of day and not looking forward to lunch boxes for school)
Just an end of year thing WYSIWYG.
I remember having it at primary school (30+ years ago) so it's been around a while...
I regard it as their office Christmas party - the classroom is their 'office' after all.
We had it when I was a kid but it wasn't just a classroom thing. All the parents came too and everyone bought a plate and we had a huge buffet full of party food. That was at a small school in the country so all the parents wasn't a huge crowd.
That's only because they don't know how to use the photocopier - if DS2 knew such things were possible wild horses wouldn't drag him away from the photocopier![]()
I bake as I know 90% of the parents will buy and I like to involve my kids![]()
This year I'm cheating. I'm making oreo reindeers. Oreo's dipped in chocolate. With m&m's for nose and eyes and broken pretzels for antlers. No baking necessary. So I'm in between. Cheating but kinda not.
I said I cheated the. I mad a batch of Irish shortbread for DD to take to school yesterday. Then made 70 Turkish shortbreads for DH to take today. But I will cheat on Monday. Even thinking of changing my mind and doing reindeer noses instead of Oreo reindeers.
We haven't had this issue yet but I'd probably end up baking just so I know he has something he can eat and enjoy.
Usually I would buy. But last week I made cheese twists. Easiest thing ever & DS came home & proudly informed me they all went, very quickly.
The note did say healthy food but I figured cheese, while it's the healthiest thing ever, it's not cake....
