    Home made peanut butter.

Looking at the ingredients on the organic peanut butter we get from the health food shop it pretty much looks like they mash up a bunch of peanuts with some oil and salt.

Is it possible to do this at home or do they work some special magic before the bashing/mashing stage?

    My favourite receipe is:

    Ingredients:
•1 cup roasted, unsalted, shelled peanuts
•1-1/2 to 3 tablespoons peanut or safflower oil
    •1/2 teaspoon salt
    •Sugar to taste, optional

    Preparation:
    1) Blend in food processor, adding just enough oil to make it smooth. You can use salted peanuts and omit the salt, or omit the salt entirely with unsalted peanuts. Add sugar to taste, if desired.
    2) If you want chunky peanut butter, add chopped peanuts after you have made the smooth version.
    3) Store peanut butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use within two weeks.

It makes about 1 and a half cups.

    It is yummy.

    That easy huh?
I feel kind of silly for spending so much on peanut butter over the years now.

    Home made peanut butter.

Our organic health found shop one has nothing but peanuts in it. HUGE pool of oil on top so on think they process it super finely then added chopped to make it chunky PB!

The pool of oil on top means they haven't added emulsifiers. The ones at the supermarket have just as much oil but they use additives so it doesn't separate.

Yep, that easy. I do eat the nuts to make sure they are reasonably fresh as well

It doesn't usually last 2 weeks in our house, maybe a week if I am lucky.

It can be hard to spread if cold though.

I remember seeing the oil-topped peanut-only stuff at the health food shop when I was little. Juat stir it back in before you use it.

I have a recipe, but I wouldn't be able to post it for a couple of days. Did you want me to post it?
