Parmesan added to the mash is nice and would go well with Italian meatloaf.

I do the cream / butter mash as described previously

I combine mine with mashed sweet potato, a little bit of butter and milk, salt and pepper and cinnamon...yum!

Sometimes, for just straight plain potato I mash it with some french onion dip.

Tobyturtle - thanks for the imaginary dinner - it was delish in my head! LOL.

How was it in real life? What did you end up putting in YOUR mash?

We mash with a tablespoon of butter and a splash of milk, then add chives, parsley and garlic. Sometimes cheese if I'm feeling indulgent LOL!

Oh, and sometimes I make sweet potato mash ... just boil some sweet potatos with the potatos. Or pumpkin mash, just boil some pumpkin with the potatos. Dunno if those two would go well with cheese, garlic, chives and parsely or not though!

This is how I always do my mashed potatoes - with sweet potato or pumpkin (sometimes both). Then sometimes I'll had some cooked broccoli when I'm mashing. Sometimes I'll had cheese and herbs, but we love mashed potato - so we just have it on it's own.

I also saw in a cookbook called Deceptively Delicious that they do a pureed beetroot with the mashed potato - not sure of the exact details as don't have the book and I haven't tried it yet - but will give it a go one day.

I boil my peeled, chopped potatoes with a chopped onion. Then I drain the water, add milk and much too much butter and salt. Mash lightly - I like it with little chuncks in it ... I'm weird like that I leave out pepper, because DH likes fine pepper and I like cracked pepper, so we put that on afterwards.

I like my mash straight forward ... but I'm definatly going to try some of these ideas. THANKS!!

I make mine with a large quantity of butter, a teaspoon of vegemite, cracked pepper, a pinch of salt (the vegemite is already salty) and lots of grated tasty cheese. Really, really good. I like the idea of cooking the potatoes with an onion...will be trying that next time!

I seem to be the very odd one out in the way that I put one or two eggs in my mashed potato (depending on the quantity of potato)..... Mash spud, add raw egg, some butter, salt, pepper, beat. Usually enough milk to make it soft. If it goes on top of shepherds/cottage pie I sprinkle nutmeg on top also.

I whip mine really fast with a fork after I have mashed it with butter and milk. It makes it fluffy and delicious.

I add milk and butter. Then I add some chopped and lightly cooked onions and some chopped spring onion and parsley flakes.
Sometimes I add grated cheese or another vegie like sweet potato/pumpkin.
