Is it okay to eat sushi every day?

...to eat sushi nori every day?
I'm OBSESSED. A new sushi place opened up down the road a few months ago and since I'm desperately trying to find yummy ways to starve myself (sensibly, of course! I just need to lose a few excess kilos!), I've been going there every chance I get to sample their delicious wares.
DH reminded me that we're meant to be saving money instead of eating it, so I picked up a sushi kit from Woolworths the other day and have been experimenting with making it at home.
But, the way I've done it, I've got a huge bowl of rice in the fridge and just make up one roll at a time with whatever toppings I like (avocado, fresh salmon, smoked salmon, smoked trout, carrot, bean sprouts, whatever other vegies I have handy, and BUCKETLOADS of wasabi and soy sauce), but I'm wondering if there's such a thing as 'too much' when it comes to sushi?

Not all of them have fish, if I'm peckish I just plop some rice and wasabi in the middle and nom nom nom, but I'm worried I might be eating too much seaweed? Can anybody help me out on this one lol?? I just had some for 'morning tea' and chances are I'll have another one later in the day...

I don't think that a few rolls a day will do any damage to your health. Some fish can have high mercury levels but if you're not eating fish that's no concern.
From a weightloss perspective sushi rice has lots of carbs and it's also made with sugar so it's not as slimming as you'd imagine.

Thanks Pony I do realise that sushi isn't the be-all and end-all as far as weight-loss goes, but I'm sure you'll agree it's a better choice than my usual snacks - chocolate, baked treats (croissants, muffins etc), or fried fast food :/ Baby steps hehehe

Just be careful with the rice - it is notorious for providing a lovely home to bacteria. It should be made fresh daily. Yum I want some nori now....

Seaweed is a good source of iodine, but also has a lot of bromine which can affect your absorption of other minerals. No reason not to eat it, but balance is always the key!
I'd also be concerned about how salty nori is - but really, you just need to make sure you're drinking heaps of water with it as well (will help with weight loss anyway) and you should be OK. I'd reckon on 200mL (small glass) with every roll.

    Itadakimasu!
