    mixed lollies

so my local store has mixed lollies you know the ones in the white paper bag, a reminder of my childhood days. We got a bag the other day still $1 (but I am sure there isn't as much as there use to be ) and they were lovely and fresh and soft. Got some today and realised they mustn't have that high of a turnover cause they were a bit chewy

Love the pineapples and the cars and the strawberries and cream
Missing the choc buds, you know the freckles and milk and white buds and caramel ones.
Not loving the mint leaves so much... they just mess with the other flovours of the lollies and mum use to steal those ones so maybe that has something to do with it.

Do you remember mixed lollies? what are your favourite?

I got excited when I saw those little paper bags in our local deli but like everything else that shop sells they were stale even the girls didn't like them and they are not fussy when it comes to lollies

I loved the caramel choc buds and cobbers
Didn't like teeth, mint leaves or black cats

    Bananas! Much cheaper than $3!

I also liked the freckles and choc buds.

Not a fan of the milk bottles or chickos.

I love the old fashioned jelly babies, the ones covered in a powder not the shiny ones. There use to be a shop around the corner from nans that had them yum yum.

    Can't get them anywhere now

Pineapples! I was convinced there were shaped like a fish for most of my childhood.
Raspberries, caramel buds, teeth, snakes - only the red & yellow ones - and freckles.
I don't like any of the chalky type lollies, musk sticks, bananas, anything liquorice or chicos.

Dianne I remember the mixed bag of lollies for 20cents too. We used to take forever to pick which lollies we wanted in our bag for 20cents as well. It must have driven the shopkeeper crazy but all the kids used to do it. My favourites were:

    Jelly Babies (sugar coated)
    Teeth
    Milk Bottles
    Pineapples
    Bullets
    Strawberry and Creams
    Sherbies

I also used to love Choo Choo bars and Toffee Apple bars but they were 10cents and a bit too expensive for me most of the time!

I liked chickos, I think they were called. Like a jelly baby but they were a chocolate-like colour and flavour. And strawbs and cream, of course!

My parents owned a general store when I was growing up. We had a dozen or more boxes of the different types of lollies and people could come in and buy a whole bag of whatever they wanted. The used to be 1c and 2c per lolly. Ah ... the memories. Of course I wasn't so fond of counting out 67c worth of one type, 36c of another etc ha ha.

I also remember when fags (little cigarette lollies) were called fags ... not some other silly name! Gosh, and you could buy lollies that looked llike cigars. Would be so un-PC now!
