Default Need some ideas...tabouli recipe, a homemade baked bean recipe, salads

    Hi!
I'm just wondering if any of you have some good ideas for the following... I hope it is okay to ask for more then one thing in one thread - thought it was easier than posting three separate ones? Not sure... sorry if it isn't allowed!

I need a good tabouli recipe, a homemade baked bean recipe (that could be done in the slow cooker maybe??), and some ideas for nice summer salads? I'm keen to do as little cooking as possible now that it has decided to get hot and some new ideas would be nice.

I'm putting DH (and myself) on a health kick of sorts since he has been sick with the tonsilitis or bronchitis and then ended up in hospital with severe migraine last night. (see boo-hoo room)

    Thanks in advance...

Okay, Lilprecious. I hope DH is feeling better.
So far, I have found a Tabouli recipe in my books, but not so sure on the baked beans. Can't seem to find the one I have in mind, but I have a slow cooker recipe book that I may look in. Perhaps you could have a look through the slow cooker threads.

    Tabouli
    1/2 cup fine bourghul
    1 cup warm water
    3 cups fresh parsley, chopped
    1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped
    1/4 cup olive oil
    4 tablespoons lemon juice
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
    2 ripe tomatoes, chopped
    1 cucumber, chopped

Place bourghul in a large bowl and cover with warm water.
Top with tomato and cucumber, add parley and mint.
    Let stand for 40 minutes.
Toss together with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper, and serve.

Actually, that doesn't sound too bad, and I haven't had it before. I might make it tomorrow. Along with some sausage rolls!

    "Our Best Baked Beans"

5 slices bacon, crisply fried and crumbled
2 cans (16oz.) beans (kidney or whatever you choose), drained
1/2 green pepper, seeded and chopped
    1/2 medium onion, chopped
    1 1/2 teaspoons prepared mustard
    1/2 cup ketchup (tomato sauce)
1/2 cup hickory-cmoke barbeque sauce (or just 'normal' bbq sauce)
    1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

Mix all ingredients in Crock-Pot. Cover and cook on Low setting for 8-12 hours (on High setting for 2-3 hours).

From a 1975 Crock-Pot recipe book for 'Rival' brand Crock-Pots.
