    I don't.

    I've also read in Jamie Oliver's cook books that he doesn't either - he thinks it makes no difference to how it turns out!

    It's not a good idea to put frozen meat into the slow-cooker, especially chicken or pork - it stays at a dangerous temp for too long. That said, I don't brown meat before sticking it in either.

    I only brown it if I'm not cooking it in a sauce, so things like roasts but things that are wet/saucy/soupy I don't bother.
