I do it with: leeks (about 3-4), carrot (about 3), celery (4 stalks), 1kg bacon bones from the rib (much more flavour but a bit fiddly to pick the meat off, but definitely worth it) and yellow split peas. Oh, and about 2 ltrs of water. Once cooked I remove the bones, let the soup cool, skim the fat, pick the meat from the bones and chop finely, then return to the soup. It's really easy and super yummy.
