No liquid required. I just put it in without a plate or foil etc but it depends on how fatty the chicken is. The chicken makes its own liquid. HTH![]()
I am hoping someone will answer this post VERY quickly!!
I want to cook a whole chicken in my slow cooker (6 litre) and I have never cooked a whole chicken before EVER - not even in the oven!
So I was going to stuff the cavity with lemons and garlic - that part I figured out fairly easily on my own.
Then I DID look at the slow cooker recipes sticky about doing roasts and the hint about putting the roast or chicken on foil, potatoes, onions, or an overturned saucer to keep it off the bottom of the cooker.
But what I haven't been able to find is anything that says whether I need to put any liquid in the bottom of the slow cooker. Or does the chicken create enough quickly enough that it won't be a problem???
If someone could help me quickly it would be appreciated. I'm hoping to prepare everything tonight and keep it in the fridge - then pop it in the slow cooker in the morning before I leave the house!
Thanks in advance,
Heidi

Hi Michelle71
I have stuffed the chicken cavity with garlic, onion and lemon wedges. I have set it on top of a small saucer in the slow cooker and massaged a little bit of olive oil into the skin. Then I sprinkled lemon pepper seasoning over the top and will cook it all day tomorrow. I shall post again tomorrow night to let everyone know how it turned out! Thanks for the advice!
Sounds yum Heidi!! Should be a very nice dinner![]()

Well, I turned the slow cooker on at 8:30am (on low) and by the time my DS and I were leaving the house just after 10am it was just starting to smell yummy so I'm looking forward to trying it tonight. One thing I thought of though... and I'm wondering if it makes a difference...
The chook was still a little bit frozen last night when I was stuffing it and preparing it so I didn't bother rinsing it and drying it. Just stuffed it, massaged it, put the seasonings on, and that was it. So I hope that works????
Just in case anyone is interested...
My chicken turned out beautifully! It was tasty and moist and just YUMMO! DS even scarfed his down!
Oh yum Heidi... that sounded like it was going to be gorgeous!!! I will have to make this for my DH and kids one night too![]()
I've not been game to do a roast in mine yet as I'm quite fond of the crispy skin. You've motivated me to give it a go![]()
Sammi - you can give it a crisp under the grill or in a hot oven if you really like but they taste yummy anyway from the SC
Good to hear it was yummy Heidi
