    Freezing cooked meat...

Am making a big batch of vegie and meat soup today for DS (he is such a pedantic eater) and usually when I give him the soup I shred the meat up in it after it is cooked so it is more of a complete meal IYKWIM?

So I was wondering if I shred up the meat and add it to the soup as per usual and then put it in small containers could I then freeze it or would the meat absorb a bit of the soup and then become yucky when defrosted?

I have frozen things like meat pasta sauce, sheperds pie etc before after the meat has been cooked but for some reason this is confusing me...one of those days I think!

    TIA

Sounds ok to me? I used to work at a restaurant (back in the my younger days loL) and we froze soup with meat, so if its ok to sell to customers lol it should be ok for you

when it's reheated, it will come out like a meaty soup, rather than soup with meat chunks (if that makes sense!). the meat will absorb the soup flavours so will be different texture and taste wise to when you make it fresh - but should still be delish anyway!

we've done this with vegie soup - shredded chicken into - tasted awesome when it was reheated!

Normally towards the end I add a couple fo whole potatos to it and then chunk it up to add to the soup after it has been cooked...do you think I could also then freeze the potato too or would it become too waterlogged?

Thanks for answering all my questions!

    me too

i make meals with everything in them and freeze for DH to take away

the only suggestion i'd make is to ensure the spud is slightly undercooked so that it can finish cooking when you reheat it (but only just underdone as, for a kidlet, you won't heat it super hot again!)

The only 'issue' if at all would be that it'll probably be more stewy than soupy IYKWIM? But still be yummy I reckon! Yeah, i second the slightly undercooking the potato too, so it doesn't go too mushy when you reheat it.
