Cool Scalloped Potatoes - to boil or to not

Now that Rainbow Raver has gotten me excited about making scalloped potatoes with my chicken kievs tonight, i've found two recipes which as the potatoes boiled before going in the oven and another which doesn't mention boiling them.

How do you make them? Pre boil or not?

I don't preboil mine. Apart from anything else it saves dirtying an extra pot

I'm going to be different here! I always preboil, the potatoes taste much better that way (imo!) much fluffier and softer and soaks the sauce up a lot better ... now i want scalloped potatoes .. wonder if we have enough cheese
