I dont brown the meat first either & my meals always turn out delicious!! (I actually have lamb shanks in my slow cooker as we speak!)

Personally I wouldnt get it, especially if its huge as another person said, they take up enough room as it is! (worth it though )

I looked at these before I bought a new one but the price is quite a lot more than the traditional ceramic ones, and it didn't seem worth the extra expense, given that I don't brown every time either. If it's the same one I was looking at, you can also put the whole thing in the oven (like to brown it off to finish with if you want to) but I thought if I really wanted it browned I would just do the whole meal in the oven, kwim?

So basically I can see how it would be handy sometimes but I decided for me it wasn't worth the extra expense.

Breeze we are having lamb shanks tonight too --- yummy I can't wait!!

I don't brown first that often, but I do sometimes, depending on what I am cooking (had delicious chicken dish last night, and it is much better if the chicken in browned first)

Our one has a broken lid, so needs replacing, and i saw that one advertised and thought that I would look into it. I really want one with a timer also especially during the ski season!! Anyway what I want, and what I get are two different things.

    Thanks for the info everyone

Depending on my time i don't brown meat either...

I have a breville that has a auto, lo & hi function. I can't fault it, it's been great I think the auto allows for a 'bit of both' won't over cook if you do leave it go for a while. I tihnk....

The reason for browning is to sear it which reduces things like salmonella and listeria
