Another way to keep the apple is to stew it and then place it in jars. The sort that has bit that pops in the middle when you open them. Clean the bottles and lids, I then pour boiling water over them and allow to completly dry. Place the jars on a cloth, fill with the hot apple, to nearly the top and put the lid on. The middle bit will pull in as the apple cools and seals it. It can then be stored in the pantry. I have done this myself and only had a few go off. Oh, another important thing to remember, don't use jars that have had anything strong smelling in them, makes for interesting apple sauce!!!
