    Tahini/humus question

I am craving humus and plan on making it at home because I am too paranoid to eat the shop-bought variety while preggers. Problem is that all of the recipes I have found online call for Tahini (or sesame paste). I really have no idea where to find it. I have looked at Woolworths and can't find it.

Do you buy it in a jar? Where do you buy yours? Do you have a recipe for humus that doesn't call for Tahini?

    Thanks, ladies

I buy it in a jar in the healthfood section of the supermarket. Brand I have now is Mayvers healthtime

Ahh home made humus is the best IMO.

Even though you have now found your tahini, you don't have to use it in humus if you don't want to or like it. I tend to leave it out of my recipe.

    Enjoy!

ETA I just consulted Wiki and found it has a whole heap of different spellings hamos, houmous, hommos, hommus, hummos, hummous or humus. Its loved the world around!

Dusty, I have never made it before (not sure why because I absolutely love it!) but plan to in the next couple of days. Nothing is nicer than dunking a nice bit of warm, crispy bread into a big dish of humus!!

Mmmmm... I love hummus too! Delish!

I often leave out the tahini and include some non-traditional ingredients: mint, yoghurt; parsley and a little finely diced red onion. I also like to serve sprinkled with paprika and/or cumin. Now I really feel like some...

Just bought all of the other goodies I need for it and told DH I would be making a batch this weekend. I think I will go the traditional route this time and next time start experimenting like you, Ruth
