I think I've discovered what they were! I googled and found a similar thread to this one on whirlpool and someone mentioned them - chicken cackles and bbq cackles
I was just going to say were they chicken cackles! OMG I loved those too - only ever saw them sold at the school canteen, never in the shops. I loved them so much.
