i have a four year old niece - and she is pretty much like your DD - dolls she can give or take, but she loves creative things

some stuff she got for her bday -
disney princess suitcase set - she packs all her horses in this (though i know she initially said her coloring books)
art set (paints, textas, pencils etc)
    beading set - larger beads
    playdoh stuff
lots of arty stuff (coloring books etc)
    pretty stuff for her hair
    horse books

not sure if that helps at all...

When my second DD turned 4 we got her a bulldozer LOL - it's what she really wanted so we got it for her (no gender stereotypes here LOL). Anyway other things that she is into are all the crafty things, beading - anything she can make herself. For stocking fillers this year I was going to get her some Kids music CD's, hair stuff, little lip glosses etc.

For a 4 year old girl you can't go past a hula hoop! They have them at my DS1's kinder and the kids love them!

For her 4th birthday Grace got a bicycle (with training wheels) and a helmet, a baby alive doll and a dancing dora doll. She is a doll girl, obviously! A friend of mine also gave her a scrapbook, chalk, pencils and felt pens and she loved that - she likes colouring in and drawing. Another thing she got that she loved was a little craft set where she had to decorate a tote bag. Everything was stick on - she had great fun doing that.

My goddaughter will be four in February & she's right into Bindy Irwin, so she gets lots of animal type presents (and a trip to the zoo each year!).

I dont have a 4 y/o daughter but my son will be 4 on sunday... I got him one of those Leapfrog TAG things... To help him read... Got him few books to go with it.

He loves making things also. Still need to get some bits and pieces for that.
