I usually wait 24hrs. Sometimes my kids get random fevers and I don't know why, then nothing else happens after the fever breaks. If it gets too high and I give panadol/nurofen and it comes back, I will take them to the doc the next day. To me a consistent high fever over 1 1/2-2 days means their bodies are trying to fight a more serious illness.
