I'm going to put my hand up and say I don't actually LOVE vegemite, though everynow and then I'll just want to try it again, so I'll have a little bit on a slice of toast- then thats usually my little fix done and thats it for a couple of months. So I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate it, but I definitely don't love it

sorry, forgot you also asked why - I find it a little too salty for me and a rather strong taste. Occassionally when I've had that little craving, I'll more likely put some avocado with it also to 'tone' it down.

I HATE it. I think it's the most repulsive substance known to humans and I can't believe anyone buys it.

Disclaimer: I was born in Canada and am also half-American so that could be why but I think it's like ingesting a glop-full of the most salty, tar-like stuff packaged as edible food. I was tricked into eating it the 2nd day I moved to Australia 4yrs ago and I literally vomited the toast right back up into the sink!

Oh - and my running joke whenever I hear on tv or read in the newspaper that Australian children are suffering an obesity problem is that Aussie kids really aren't overweight at all. It's just all the water retention from consuming too much salt thanks to Vegemite. I actually wouldn't be surprised if that were true!!

I used to eat it by the teaspoonful as a child.

    Shame on me.

I do love it but funnily enough, since being pregnant, it's the LAST thing I have wanted on anything, ever.

As an example of what a major change in character that is for me - for Xmas one year, my grandparents bought me a jumbo jar of it, and wrapped it and everything! I was so grateful! :-P

Salty axle grease! It's absolutely disgusting in taste, look and smell!

Born in Australia, so it's not just the foreigners that hate the stuff!

Gingerly raises hand - it's not even in my house! Occasionally I might like a very, very thin scrape on a cruskit. But it's rare.

Try Marmite instead!!! Soooo much better. I can't stand Vegemite but Marmite is yum.

Although I might be biased, kiwi kids grow up on Marmite...

I couldn't live without Vegemite! I just love the stuff!

When I'm sick and can't stomach food I crave Vegemite on toast. WHen I'm hungover I gorge myself on Vegemite on toast. When I CBF cooking, you guessed it - I eat Vegemite on toast

Vegemite was the first sandwich spread I gave my kids when I introduced toast and sandwiches to their diets as babies.

Ewwww. I am Aussie born but am of Turkish decent. The taste is horrible as is the smell.

I have tried Vegemite as a kid and loathe it. I've bought a jar for my kids to try and they hate it too. A few of my friends who are Aussie born but Turkish absolutely love it. I guess it is a matter of taste rather than that of ethnicity.
