    Bras

    Hi All,

this is my second pregnancy but I can't remember last time when I stopped wearing my bras with underwire. I am nine weeks and maybe I should stop now. Does anyone know?

    thanks

I think when you no longer fit your regular bras it is a good idea to start wearing mat or soft cup bras.

    Hi,
    Congratulations !

I remember with my first pregnancy, i stopped wearing my underwire around 9 weeks cause they became so uncomfortable. Too tight ! I had got to the point where it hurt my back to wear it.
So, i went and got fitted for a wire free bra that the lady said should get me through till i needed to get fitted for a maternity bra.
Needless to say i was back there 3 weeks later cause i had put on so much weight and my boobs had ballooned beyond belief The poor lady couldnt believe it !
She put me straight in a maternity bra.

Thats just my experience. Not sure if there is a general rule as to when you should stop with wire bras.
I think - the sooner the better- but i know of people who dont change bra types at all.
    Good luck !

Once you start getting uncomfortable then I would change over. I think I was 20wks with this pregnancy, but I don't have big breasts and they don't change much.

My suggestion would be to have a proper fitting done.

I think the general recommendation is that you should stop wearing underwires by the time you reach 20 weeks because your milk glands are forming/changing and the underwires can cause problems.

I think I got my maternity bras at around 13 or 14 weeks. I couldn't believe it, I had gone from a C cup to an E cup! I'm still wearing the ones I bought then, so for me most of my growing was done early on. I must admit though, I much prefer wearing a sports bra to a maternity bra. I think sports bra helps to minimise your bust, which for me makes me feel better about my appearance. But when bubs come I'm guess I'm going to have to settle for the maternity bras...

I actually moved to no underwire about the same time as the BFP, cos my BBs were SO sore. I'd also already gone up a cup. So I've been alternating 2 wireless bras ever since. It's more comfortable.

phynna, i went from a 14c to a 14f by the time i was 20 weeks when i was preg with dd. I guess all bodies are different! Some people don't change at all, or only go up one size.
I'd go into maternity bras when your normal ones become uncomfortable.

thanks everyone. Going on last time, I don't think I will change at all. Hubby felt ripped off as my boobs didn't change. So far no change either. Might still fit into the old maternity bras from last time. Have to go give them a try.

It's a good idea to stop wearing underwire as soon as you know you are pg. Even if your boobs don't get bigger, the tissue in them is changing and you can get blocked milk ducts from the underwire.

Oh dear... i'm still wearing my underwire bras

I'm an E cup & they have only gotten a bit bigger atm, a little uncomfortable, but I can't stand being without an underwire, I NEED that support!

I guess I should get out of them...

I have found E cup maternity bras but no bigger. I am going to be in so much trouble when my milk comes in

Was anyone else like me and went and bought 3 new bras (after a couple of years of not buying any!) a week before they got a BFP?

I'm a bit nervous about being fitted for a maternity bra - are there any particularly good shops to go to?

The larger size maternity bras are harder to come by, but you can get them. The very best place is Mothers' Direct (the ABA store). They have a great range of maternity bras even in the bigger sizes. I love their range as they have really attractive ones unlike the usual boring bunch. If you are in Melb, Syd or Bris, you can go in store to be fitted. Otherwise you can order online if you know your size.

Otherwise the department stores such as DJs and Myer have an ok range, and a very small range (if at all) in the larger sizes. Some of the brands have outlet stores with a better range. If you are having trouble you could try ringing the manufacturers to find out where they send their larger size stock to. Or you could always go and be fitted at Myer and order from Mothers Direct (shh, did I say that?).

I'm almost finished being pregnant and it honestly depends on which bra i'm wearing. I had to wear a bra 24hrs a day for the first two months because any weight on mine was pure agony without one.

I ended up ripping the underwire out of a few of mine when that started getting uncomfortable around 25 weeks.

Now for some reason most of my old bras still fit me, and depending on which one i'm wearing (underwire or no underwire) i'm fine. Different brands feel better with the wire ripped out and some with that extra support save my day.
I'll probably buy a few maternity bras in the next few weeks or so. (if i can find any in my huge size!!)

I've been wondering about maternity bras too. My sister went from a C cup to an F during one of her pregnancies. She ended up in tears in the bra shop after being asked if she wanted to order a G cup because she still had a few months left to go.

I started out bigger, a DD. When I got a BFP and my boobs were sore I ordered an E cup online. It took three weeks to arrive ... and was too big. But I'm 21 weeks now and still wearing my old bras. I don't know what to do... am a bit worried I will have a boob explosion soon and be left with nothing to wear. I live in Vietnam where the girls are tiny - tiny in the ribs as well as tiny all over - so I can't buy anything here.

It's so frustrating not knowing what to expect. Sorry I don't have any advice... but I've been venting to my friends here (all non-pregnant with no intention of having babies soon) and it seems inappropriate.

GtbbiA, it is likely that you will need a bigger size once your milk comes in, if not before. It might be an idea to order a larger size when you are nearly due - allow enough time for it to arrive but don't order too early in case you go up a size still. You will probably need at least 3, as there can be milk leakage so you might need to wash often.

In the meantime, while you are pg, if you do end up stuck, you might be better off going braless for a few days rather than squeeze into one that is too small.

    GL hun.

Sorry StillHoping, I didn't mean to hijack your thread.
MantaRay... thanks for the advice. I'm writing a list of things for my Mum to post me so I'll add bras to the list. I cannot go to work without a bra, though!
