    Swine Flu

My sister has got it after catching the train & a bus to QLD last week (up & back on Friday).

A bit scary being so close to home...very scary.

How is she going with it?

    Has she had anti-virals?

eeeekkk not good, I found out today from a nurse that comes to our playgroup we have 7 confirmed cases since last week in our little town. I'm a little freaked out by it, just because I have bubs on board!

My MIL is suspected of having it - they visited Blake and I in Hossy on sat and she started feeling sick on Sunday night/Monday...hopefully my b.milk will help Blake stay healthy? She is on Tamiflu and results on Thursday...

I have no idea if they gave her anything. Mum came to the door to pick up her dog after taking my sister to the hossy, but got the dog & ran so the kids couldn't get too close.
I'm glad my sister went home when she got back TBH. She's been staying at mum's since finishing tafe 2 weeks ago, but went home to start packing to move. If she hadn't gone home, she would've definetely been here at some stage before we found out.

    Yikes!

I don't know whether to be freaked out or not. On one hand they say 99% of people who have the flu this winter have swine flu, which makes it just seem like seasonal flu. But then you hear reports of young, otherwise healthy people and pregnant women dying and its terribly scary.

I get a bit worried about the possible second wave of it- they say in the Spanish Influenza outbreak, the first round wasn't much to be worried about and everyone though it had gone, but then the second wave was the really deadly, horrible one.

The whole thing gives me the creeps.

I have not heard any reports yet of "otherwise healthy" people dying from Swine Flu. All the reports that I have heard, the patients have had underlying health issues. Apparently the mum whose unborn baby died was an indigenous woman from Palm Island, where they have little to no Health care. They have not said yet that she had underlying health issues, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did.
It is all so sad That poor woman must be so devastated. Rest in peace little baby.

My DH had a flu a couple of weeks ago, he works in the hospital and has been in contact with patients with swine flu. They still wouldn;t test him for it He is over it now, and it was no worse than any other flu he has had, except for he did get higher temps. He had a week off work (lucky he was sick mostly on his days off, lol), I honestly think that he did have the swine flu as one of his work mates has now been confirmed to have it...he had to be tested as he has a child with a terminal illness.
They won't test most people now, as they are saying that if you have the flu, it is probably a 99% chance it is swine flu anyway.

After DH had the flu my 14 year old and 9 year old got a mild flu , both only were sick for about 2 days. I had just a head cold for 2 days, Jack didn't get sick at all. (I chalk that up to breastfeeding him)

Thanks Marlene Made me feel better.
I wasn't too worried, but with Bri having glandular fever & Jesse being so young, it makes me a bit nervy.
She's actually very sick. More than the average flu. Swollen throat, neck & around her ears. Very high temps, severe sore throat. Mum said her whole head is red.
It is scary. Just as long as she looks after herself & stays hydrated. & yes, all the ones I've heard loosing their lives have had other health issues.

I do think I would be nervy too with Bri having glandular fever...and it does sound like your sister is very sick
I hope it didn't sound like I was down playing the Swine Flu too much...it is important to be very careful with any strain of flu.
