    First post, first FET

    Hi girls

This is my first post but I have been seeking inspiration from all your posts for quite some time! So many of you have lifted my spirits at times of great despair and sorrow!! Thank you.

This afternoon I am going in for my first FET. (Last cycle was my first stimulated cycle with a fresh transfer with no success.) I have previously done 6 IUIs also with no success.

We got 10 eggs from the EPU and 8 fertilised which I'm told is a good result. My FS advised to transfer only one freshy as we didn't know how I would respond. They could only freeze six of the remaining as one was fragmented. For the FET today we have decided to go ahead with 2 embryos. On thawing tho, they both went "belly-up" (FS words) and they have thawed another two. I spoke with the scientist this morning and he said that one of them has grown nicely but there hasn't been too much happening with the other. He also told me that one of the six didn't end up making it through freezing. So all in all we have lost 3 of those that were frozen and are putting one back today and have one left in the freezer!

I also had to start the Progesterone pessaries yesterday as I had a very small amount of spotting and my FS said that my lining may be becoming unstable. I was so positive before this news and the news of the 2 embryos going "belly-up" but 10 minutes after the phone call I was a wreck!! I am generally a cheerful, positive person and prior to this journey I would never have thought I could go from happy to distraught in the snap of the fingers....nevermind I always get back up!

I guess my main reason for this post is to find out if losing so many frozen embryos is "normal". We've gone from 6 down to possibly 2 very quickly.

Sorry for the long post - being my first I think I had to get a bit out of the system.

I truly wish each and every one of you the best of luck - no-one deserves to be travelling this journey when clearly so many people find it so easy to start a family.

    Cheers
    Mel

    Hi Mel

    Welcome to BB

It is not unusual for embies to not survive the thaw. Do you know what day they were when they were frozen?

Lots of people don't even get any to freeze in the first place so it is a good sign that you had any that were good enough to freeze.

Put your energy into thinking positive thoughts about the one that is growing well. It does only take one after all.

Don't worry about spotting from the pessaries - they aren't nice things and can irritate easily - I have had spotting every time I have used them.

Good luck with you transfer today - remember to take care of yourself afterwards and relax.

Many thanks to all of you for your kind words. We were lucky to have 2 embryos transferred with none left in storage. But as you said, it only takes one!

    Will keep our fingers crossed.
Good luck to all of you.

    Hi Mel

So sorry to hear of all you've been through so far. What a journey. I think "belly up" is a very hearbreaking term....They could have said it to you in a more thoughtful way.

I wish you all the luck with your journey..

I hope you get some good news soon.

    Hi Mel,

Just wanted to wish you the best of luck. I have a 5 month old daughter who is the result of my first HRT FET (my fresh cycle also resulted in a BFN). When we were doing our FET we decided only to transfer 1 embie. The first embie that they defrosted failed to divide, so they had to defrost another one that grew to 6 cells prior to transfer (frozen at 4 cells/3 days). That beautiful little embie is now asleep in her cot.

I really hope that you get a BFP from this FET. Sending you lots of positive and sticky vibes.

    Janie xxx
